In June 2024, NIO reached significant milestones with record vehicle deliveries, strategic partnerships, and advancements in their power infrastructure. Highlights include remarkable growth in deliveries, new NIO Houses, and expanded power swap stations, as well as new collaborations with FAW Hongqi and GAC Energy. Additionally, NIO launched the fourth generation of its power swap stations and introduced a new quality system.

This is interesting. I wonder about the viability of big battery swap stations on major arterials in Australia. Nio's 4th gen EV battery swap stations are rolling out across China, and are now billed as "more convenient than gas refueling". Drive in, tap the centre screen, and in 2 minutes and 44 seconds you're driving away with a new, charged battery. This one site can accommodate 23 cars at a time and punch out 480 swaps per day. The real kicker is the company's scale. Nio has installed 2432 of its Power Swap Stations across China, a third of which are on highways. The company is leading a consortium of competitors who have signed up for access to its battery swap stations, and are developing compatible next-gen EVs. These partners include heavyweights Chery, Geely and GAC - all of which are already in Australia or coming soon, by the way. Consider the real upside beyond convenience though: You buy the car and lease the battery, always swapping into the newest packs. Stellantis and Samsung SDI are powering up a new $3.2B gigafactory in Kokomo, Indiana. This joint venture, called StarPlus Energy, will boost production of battery cells for electric vehicles in North America. Construction is already in progress for the first factory, set to open in Q1 2025. The second plant is targeting a 2027 start, aiming to establish Samsung SDI's most extensive EV battery production base in North America. [GM chair meets battery partners in 1st Seoul visit] Mary Barra reportedly discusses supply prices, joint plants with top executives of LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI 제너럴모터스 CEO Mary Barra visited South Korea to meet the automaker’s Korean battery manufacturers -- LG Energy Solution and Samsung SDI -- to further strengthen their partnerships and discuss the global electric vehicle transition amid slowing EV growth. According to industry sources, the GM chair on Wednesday met LG Energy Solution CEO Kim Dong-myung and Samsung SDI CEO Choi Yoon-ho in Seoul. Barra was spotted at Gimpo International Airport on Tuesday evening. The visit marked her first visit to Korea since she became the head of GM in 2016. Although no companies disclosed what was on the table during the meetings, the heads of the US automaker and Korean battery manufacturers are expected to have discussed topics including battery supply, operation and construction of their joint factories, unit prices and their long-term partnerships. Sources said the GM chair is likely to have asked LG Energy Solution to upgrade the automaker’s portion of the tax benefits that they receive from the US government with the advanced manufacturing production credit, known as AMPC, under the Biden administration’s Inflation Reduction Act. The Automotive Retail Sector is changing by the day. These changes, often driven by the dealership's OEM supplier open new commercial opportunities for operations and OPEX while they also introduce new business opportunities. The Retail sector does not have to be reactive or led by their OEMs. They can lead. Here's a point in question. V2X is en route. It not only allows a retail organisation to energy peak-shave or self-consume to reduce OPEX and grow bottom-line, but it can set them apart from the conservative dealer pack to make them a more sustainable business unit. I have been banging on here on V2X and V2G for over a year, and now two automotive OEMs are making V2G a business. First Ford, Honda and BMW announced ChargeScale just a few weeks ago while now Honda and Mitsubishi announce a V2G energy business play to compete with the DSOs. The writing is on the wall. Learn new tricks to ensure the future or stay with legacy business models and falter No risk, no gain I say. This is an excellent short read for those who are new to V2G. #oem Stellantis has announced Kokomo, Indiana as the site of their second StarPlus Energy #battery cell making facility. A joint venture with Samsung SDI , the “mirrored” second facility will give StarPlus Energy a combined capacity of 67 GWh. The first giga factory be completed in 2025, with an eventual capacity of 33 GWh. The second facility’s SOP is 2027, with a capacity goal of 34 GWh. #autoforecastsolutions calculates the combined potential output of both facilities could supply the production of as many as 890,000 #electricvehicles a year. Though that number will change with the inclusion of #phev s in the product mix. Late to the #ev party, #stellantis plans to release up to eight distinct pure #ev nameplates in the next few years. #automotiveindustry #forecasting #evs #batterymanufacturing #oemsupplier
