Attend an in-person screening at the Museum, or participate virtually by viewing a selection of on-demand short films and pre-recorded conversations with filmmakers. All screenings are offered free of charge. In-Person screenings are offered on April 3, 4, 5 and 9. Virtual screenings are available for streaming throughout April, May, and June. The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia and ADL Philadelphia condemn the Bryn Mawr Film Institute’s (BMFI) recent decision to cancel the screening of “The Child Within Me” for the 2024 Israeli Film Festival (IFF) of Philadelphia. Although BMFI states that this decision was made in an attempt to avoid controversy, this action only serves to blacklist Israeli culture, playing into the hands of antisemites who try to deny the Jewish people their voice and existence. The IFF intentionally offers a multifaceted view of Israeli society. Each season, carefully curated feature films and documentaries provide glimpses into the intricate tapestry of Israeli life, allowing audiences to form their own informed opinions. We will not stand by as the normalization of such hate becomes commonplace. Our history is a testament to resilience in the face of adversity; the Jewish people have prevailed against attempts to silence and erase us, and we will continue to do so. This is a moment to reaffirm our commitment to celebrating Jewish culture and Israel's right to exist in all its diversity and vibrancy. We stand firm in our resolve not to let hate dictate the narrative. We urge BMFI to reinstate the screening of “The Child Within Me” immediately. Let us celebrate cultural diversity, promote dialogue, and recognize the transformative power of film in connecting us all. THE MAGICAL NEGRO is a trope in cinema, television, and literature: the character is typically, but not always, "in some way outwardly or inwardly disabled, either by discrimination, disability or social constraint". The Negro is often a janitor or prisoner. The character often has no past but simply appears one day to help the white protagonist. They usually have some sort of magical power, "rather vaguely defined but not the sort of thing one typically encounters."The character is patient and wise, often dispensing various words of wisdom, and is "closer to the earth". —Information from Wikipedia where you can read more https://lnkd.in/gc56a-5W ℹ️ #cinema #television

Excitement, inspiration, and maybe a little trepidation. That's how many of us feel about the potential of AI in the creative process. But can AI truly be creative? According to recent experiments, it seems so. AI can democratize content creation, and that's a good thing. While the machine may execute the outcome, the idea still comes from the human. Of course, there are concerns about the impact of AI on creative jobs. But how different is it from CGI taking over the role of scenic artists, model makers, or puppeteers? As a theatre maker, I experimented with AI to design costumes and sets for productions, and the results were excellent. AI gave me the scope to express my ideas clearly and adapt them to become as accurate as possible. I don't have the graphic skills to create the designs as well as the machine, but I do have the ideas. Using AI to generate imagery allowed me to have creative conversations with human designers to develop the designs further. It was a win/win situation. Even including generated specific images in the finished product. Check out how Sora is being used to create video.... It is pretty amazing. #artificialintelligence #creativity #ai https://lnkd.in/dpR8RNzu.
