F1 is back in full swing! We once again can watch outstanding engineering push machines around the track at a blistering pace. What can we learn from F1 to apply to manufacturing… let’s look at the pit stop. 1️⃣ The average pit stop took almost 10 seconds in 1980 and today roughly 2.25 seconds - 24 years of continuous improvement at work 2️⃣ A new world record was set by McLaren at 1.8 seconds - yea that’s fast! 3️⃣ Each team can have up to 22 people supporting the pit stop How can we translate to performance in manufacturing? ☑️ Relentless practice of their craft - be the very best at what you do ☑️ Each member is clear on their assignments and the order of which they are performed ☑️ Rally around a single shared purpose - a team all pushing in the same direction Lastly… and the most important, celebrating the wins and pick each other up when mistake are made! Porsche is continuously working on the implementation of Networked Production 4.0 and the vision of the future. Under the motto: On the way to the smart "Zero Impact Factory". SMART/ LEAN/ GREEN are the key words for the sports car manufacturer's production methods.

The Edinburgh University Formula Student Team has been dominating the driverless category at Formula Student competitions for the past 6 years! 🏆🏎️ A key factor behind their success? Adopting innovative design tools like the Arcadia Design Suite for electrical wiring harnesses and connections. Excellent insight into the new Mercedes FW by Albert Fabrega! The team has cleverly taken advantage of a loophole in the rules by claiming that the inboard profile of the front wing is a wire, allowing them to remove it and improve their outwash flow. With regulations pushing for 4 full span profiles on the wing, Mercedes' approach is certainly a unique one.
