He explains🎙️: “I studied #hospitality and always wanted to be a hotel #GeneralManager, but I also felt that I needed to discover other businesses before moving to hospitality. So I started my career in mass retail and food service, where things move really fast. 🏰I spent 7 years at Disneyland Paris, I worked in particular in Cinderella’ banquet hall (talk of adrenalin and clients expecting something exceptional), then I worked my way up to the role of assistant manager in hotels in the amusement park. But I missed #Italy, its sunshine and vibrant culture. I’m from Sicily, it’s in my genes, so when the opportunity came up to join Accor as General Manager in #Milano, in 2003, I grabbed it! 🏨 It's a funny coincidence that I worked in this very same hotel, the ibis Milano Centro, from 2003 to 2013. I then moved to the Albergo Novotel Milano Linate Aeroporto, then the Novotel & Ibis Milano Ca’ Granda combo, in parallel with interim missions to support the Mercure Bergamo Aeroporto or the ibis Padua. But you know, the more I do, the more I enjoy it! I finally came back to the ibis Milano Centro in April 2023.” Vincenzo hardly stops to breathe. “I’ve always had a #passion for operations. It’s not just words, leaders must take action to build mutual #trust and maintain it over time! During my annual appraisal, a few weeks ago, when 𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙖𝙨𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙢𝙮 𝙤𝙗𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙨, 𝙄 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙨 𝙣𝙪𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧 1 𝙩𝙤 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙖 𝙢𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢. #Motivation and #recognition. That’s what really matters. Some time ago, when I was working at the combo, my team offered me a plaque engraved with an inscription which is highly meaningful to me: “𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁, 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝘀 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗯𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿”. For once, Vincenzo goes silent with emotion. Yes, this man is definitely a leader at heart!"🌟  

Garin Dart its good to see Hotel Managers standing up for the industry and speaking out so I hope you don't  mind me shearing your post . Standards are dropping in many hotels, and the outlook for F&B departments is looking grim. Knowledge is fading, and this decline is affecting overall service quality. General Managers should have the power and autonomy to implement changes and strategies based on their experience to ensure the success of the hotel. By leveraging their expertise, GMs can address challenges. Unfortunately, there's a trend of GMs being placed in positions prematurely. I've observed this on LinkedIn, where some have only worked in two or three hotels. They lack experience in crucial departments like F&B, housekeeping, and kitchens, yet hold the title of hotel manager. It's concerning-I recently met one such manager who lacks the necessary background. Why are they in that position?. I worked for a shipping company 20 years and worked for some very good managers but they was held back from the very top who would not listen to the hotel managers them self's and ideas and what does surprise me from the very top they had no experience in working in the hotel industry them self's. If you employ a Hotel manager you employ them for there experience and drive to make the hotel successfully profitable they now the operation from there experience and a good hotel manager would listen to the hotel heads of department who specialize in their field. It's the same if a GM employs me to do training in the food and beverage department. I would expect them to trust my background and experience to deliver excellent training, without interfering in the process but reporting back when finished.

Hoteliers, The "I am looking for someone with the brand experience" is equivalent to "We require 75 years of experience, a masters degree and a PhD for this role (Sales & Marketing Director)." A friend of mine was declined an Ops manager role because of "No brand experience". Dude, I have worked with over 10 brands; opening, operation, re-branding, eco, midscale, luxury, lifestyle you name it. You take any brand, sit down for a day and there you know it. Anyone can learn about any brand within a day so, can we please leave this nonsense in the past especially when you are struggling with talent?? I love it when hoteliers present their brand "Here, our glass of water is carried by nuns, blessed by organic air, and served by the finest people you find in the industry." We all know it is not true, right? It is a glass of water served like anywhere else. Every hotel is the same, you learn the brand and adapt.
