According to the United Nations, the world population is going to reach 9.6 billion people by 2050. If we keep the same lifestyle that we have today, we will need three planets worth of resources to do that. This statistic was quoted last week in the International Conference on Precision Fermentation. This is what we learned precision fermentation can help do to alleviate the burden: ✅ Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by replacing livestock ✅ Optimize land use ✅ Produce diverse, integrable proteins into a range of foods ✅ Create complementary protein sources to existing sources The key challenges to overcome in precision fermentation now: 👉 Strain development and selection 👉 Scaling up 👉 Regulatory pathway and risk management How can we address the challenges of precision fermentation?
