I'll call it as I've seen it. Q1 in the local Civil and Infrastructure Engineering Design market was challenging. Not bad, but challenging. Multiple industry headwinds in the local Civil and Infrastructure market impacted hiring decisions and equally on the candidate side, created some nervousness. This was all capped off by watching my football side lose a Grand Final by 4 points! Deep breaths!! Time to focus on Q2 - Silly Season! What my 17 years of recruitment experience in the Melbourne market have taught me is that things change very quickly and while the market can be jumpy, it has always proven to be resilient. I met many clients over the last month and the unanimous opinion is that the market is set to surge and, as Murphy's Law would have it, it will do so over the most frantic time of the year - the lead into Christmas and January. Interest rates have paused. Immigration continues to surge and market confidence starts to warm - it's a recipe for action. The key to getting in front of the surge is to plan and act early and not wait to find yourself digging through the scraps that other companies and candidates have left you. My advice; if you are in a hiring position at a civil engineering design consultancy, plan and act early. If you are a candidate perhaps positioning yourself for a career step, start the research now. I am available for confidential career consultations now so please give me a call on 0421 200 469. We can chat, perhaps have a coffee, and start putting the plan together. I promise we won't talk about football 😂

So you want to work for a developer? Speaking to construction professionals from a GC background on a daily basis the dream career move I hear most often is, without a doubt, taking their talents to a developer. So how can you be proactive in making the switch? Here are a couple of things that make the transition a little easier... 🏢 - Ensure the GC you're at is building for developers: The more exposure you have to a developer the increased likelihood you will end up working for one. Whether you're at a national contractor that works with big hitters such as Trammel Crow, Related, CBRE. Or, a regional contractor that works with local developers, it will increase your stock as a potential candidate for a developer. Why would a developer hire you with no exposure to the specifics of the industry? 📖 - Educate, Upskill, Learn, And Learn More: Compounding interest is a very real phenomenon. The more time you can dedicate to perfecting your craft in a GC, building your network, and differentiating your profile to those around you, the more your attractiveness to a potential employer. Developers want to hire from rival developers, not general contractors, so ensure your capabilities are clear and well evidenced. 🏗 - Develop A Niche: Specific project experience is massively important when developers are advertising a role. If you focus your career on a particular sector of work, and become a master of the craft, when a position becomes available for a developer who builds in your niche - you'll be an excellent candidate. 🔌 - Network: Develop a relationship with a recruiter, speak to people at developers, and become a name-to-be-known in your niche. Then, when an opportunity arises, you'll be positioned to make the most of the opportunity. If you have already made the switch from a GC to a developer, then please feel free to share your experience/insight in the comments down below! If you feel as if you're ready to make the switch to a developer, I'm looking for individuals with ~10 Years' experience in multifamily/condominium experience in Miami & Tampa. #RealEstate #GeneralContracting #Developer #FloridaConstruction #ConstructionOpportunities #RealEstateOpportunities

This is a very insightful article, particularly for construction companies. The key point is: - 8.5 million job openings and only 6.5 million unemployed people in the U.S, a problem that particularly presses on Construction. -This skill gap and demand is only expected to grow. This is where someone like me comes in! Someone who can directly present your role/business/opportunity to the person you need. The guys I work with in Texas have great tenure (5-10+ years) at top-ranked GC's, almost all whom are not marketing that they're open to work. This means I can market your opportunity to the top 1% of talent, who likely would not see or interact with it on the likes of Indeed or LinkedIn. If you are looking to hire top Construction talent, across: Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, or elsewhere in Texas; feel free to reach out at blambert@verrusgroup.com or here on LinkedIn. It can't hurt to see how you can get a leg up on the competition! #Construction #Texas #Recruitment #Hiring #Opportunity

When looking for a new job in the field of Architecture, here are some absolute top tip, "must do's" if you are to increase your chances of getting your CV and profile noticed here on LinkedIN... 👉 Add “open to relocation” on your profile on Linkedin. Recruiters will often just search by postcode and then a distance from that postcode. Adding open to relocation will help you get found! 👉 When posting that you are open to work, add other area's that you are targeting to help you be seen in additional searches! LinkedIN will allow 5 Cities to be added to your criteria. 👉 If there is one city you are looking to move to, i.e London, then change your location to London so you are seen in all London searches. 👉 Once you have done all these things, visit ArchitecturalVacancies.com and create a "job alert" and let the vacancies come to your inbox! #work #architecturaljobs #linkedin #architecturalvacancies

One of the biggest things that shook me by surprise, having been in this industry myself, coming up through the trades, was unfortunately the lack of processes, especially when it came to hiring. There are a lot of residential construction companies who are small businesses, who are obviously just trying to build some really great products, and I 100% commend you and am grateful for helping build incredible cities here across Ontario. But when there's no process in place, you're living dangerously and you're wildly exposed. That you're just gonna be a part of that flip a coin hiring process, where you have five or six candidates come in, how can you effectively evaluate which one was the best if you just ask different questions every step of the way? There is no process about how they came in. And the biggest thing we practice within the Adams Limitless and limitless way of recruiting is protecting the candidate experience. We wanna make sure anybody that interacts with your company, whether they were hired for the role or not, is that we make sure to get back to them. Are we perfect? No, because we get hundreds of applicants. But we need to protect that candidate journey, so again, when we go out to hire, again there's a positive image out there. The biggest challenge we have is hiring managers unfortunately not getting back to us, and that really damages the candidate experience. So, we are that buffer when you're too busy, you can't do the hiring. We wanna make sure we protect that candidate experience. And then, on top of that, we have a dedicated process that we follow and we make sure that you follow every step of the way, so you can have the right person in your company. --- Ready to take your construction career to the next level?
