United Utilities appoints Costain, Jacobs, Murphy and more to deliver £13.7bn AMP8 plan United Utilities has announced its seven #engineering and #infrastructure businesses to help deliver its £13.7bn investment plan for the eighth asset management period (AMP8) between #2025 and #2030. The appointees are: #C2V (a VolkerStevin/Jacobs joint venture), Costain Group PLC, Jacobs, Murphy, Kier Group Integrated Services, Mott MacDonald Bentley | MMB and MWH Treatment. The agreement includes a potential extension through the next five year AMP period, 2030 to 2035. The #utility company has described its £13.7bn plans as “the largest #investment in #water and #wastewater #infrastructure in the #NorthWest in more than a century”. The plan will also support 30,000 #jobs, including 7,000 new jobs within the company and wider supply chain, according to #UnitedUtilities. This will bring investment in skills and opportunities to North West communities and contribute £35bn of #economic value across the region, it added. This is subject to the plan’s approval by regulator Ofwat. Decisions are to be announced on all companies’ AMP8 business plans – worth a combined £96bn – in December. United Utilities’ AMP8 partners were selected through a competitive #tender process and will allow the water company access to the best use of expertise and innovation. Additionally, the partners will work #collaboratively and at pace to deliver #transformation for customers and the environment in the North West, United Utilities said. If the plan is approved, the partnership will be responsible for over £3bn of major infrastructure in the region including upgrades to wastewater treatment works and reducing #storm overflow activations by delivering the largest spill reduction programme in the UK. In March, United Utilities appointed Jacobs and Tetra Tech RPS to its strategic solutions team for AMP8 and AMP9. The water company is also on the hunt for design development partners to join its AMP8 team in contracts worth £120M. Costain has said that the services it will provide through the agreement with United Utilities include project management, engineering and design services. These include ground investigations, geotechnical studies, mechanical and electrical engineering, tunnel design, planning services, technical support, asset data gathering and environmental management. Costain CEO Alex Vaughan said: “We’re delighted that this new contract win extends our relationship with United Utilities and that we can bring our leading strategic expertise to support upgrades of its critical infrastructure. This announcement builds on our growing positions with the leading water companies as they prepare for the vital AMP8 investment period." https://lnkd.in/ey7sMY97

Black & Veatch's Solar Power Plant Feasibility Studies 1. Site Evaluation and Selection Solar Resource Assessment: Analysis of solar irradiation data, including historical patterns, seasonal variations, and potential shading to determine the site's potential for power generation. Land Suitability: Evaluation of the topography, soil conditions, environmental sensitivities (wetlands, protected species habitat), and proximity to existing infrastructure (roads, transmission lines) to ensure the project is technically feasible and avoids costly delays. Permitting and Regulatory: 2. Technology Selection Photovoltaic (PV) Module Type: Evaluation of different PV technologies (monocrystalline, polycrystalline, thin-film) based on efficiency, cost, temperature sensitivity, and suitability to the site's climate conditions. Inverters: Selection of central or string inverters along with their power ratings, taking into account the project's scale and energy conversion needs. Mounting Systems: Determination of whether fixed-tilt, single-axis tracking, or dual-axis tracking systems are most suitable for the site's terrain and energy yield optimization goals. 3. System Design & Engineering Electrical Design: Creation of detailed electrical layouts, including string configuration, array sizing, cable routing, protection systems, and grounding schemes. Civil Engineering and Site Layout: Optimization of site grading, drainage plans, road layout, and location of substation and other support facilities. We know that avoiding development and permitting risks is the key to staying ahead of the challenges already being faced by energy infrastructure development today. Actively working on projects through construction, supporting North America’s largest EPC builder of transmission and energy infrastructure projects has given us a unique perspective on project solutions and how they lead into construction. The conditions put on permits, land agreements and other third party approvals in the development stage need to be understood holistically in order to ensure that later, we don’t have to re-engage stakeholders and agencies, a potential costly impact and one that risks the success of the project. Decisions made in the environment and ROW planning & development stages, permitting processes, and acquisition campaigns, all roll down into construction. Focusing on the conditions, layouts, routing, ground impacts, sizing, and commitments in development makes an impact on a projects cost in construction when compared to the effort needed at the permitting stage. When leading decision making and planning from a construction minded approach day one we allow for a greater chance at reducing costs, avoiding risk, and increasing compliance all along the project lifecycle. All this to say that a deep consideration for decisions at every stage maximizes project efforts while lowering risk and negative circumstances. We’re construction minded. A perspective our clients are already benefiting from in 2024. 🌞 **Navigating the Desert Storm: Bhadla Solar Park's Project Management Triumph!** ☀️ Bhadla Solar Power Plant is one of the Largest Solar Plant in the world. Let's dive deeper into challenge faced by the Bhadla Solar Park project, where our project managers showcased their prowess in Scope and Risk Management, turning adversity into accomplishment. 🚀💼 **Challenge : Weathering the Desert Storm - Scope and Risk Management! ⛈️** The Thar Desert, with its relentless heat and unpredictable weather, demanded meticulous planning. The project, spanning 14,000 acres, faced potential setbacks due to extreme temperatures exceeding 40°C (104°F) and sporadic sandstorms. To tackle this, our project managers engaged in comprehensive Scope Management, defining the project's parameters. They precisely outlined the solar park's physical boundaries, identified the critical components, and established realistic timelines. This disciplined approach ensured clarity and set the foundation for effective execution. Moreover, in the realm of Risk Management, the team identified and assessed potential risks associated with the harsh climate. The statistics were stark - a 20% risk of equipment degradation due to prolonged exposure to high temperatures and a 15% risk of delays in construction timelines due to unforeseen weather disruptions. Implementing proactive risk mitigation strategies, the team installed advanced cooling systems for solar panels, reducing the equipment degradation risk to just 5%. Additionally, contingency plans were devised to manage delays, ensuring that the project stayed on track despite the challenging weather conditions. By integrating Scope and Risk Management, our project managers not only successfully executed the Bhadla Solar Park project but also achieved a remarkable 98% uptime of solar panels, surpassing industry standards and turning the desert challenge into a solar success story.
