To compete with your dealers or to not compete with them?
Rumor has it that Western Power Sports (WPS), in an attempt to grow direct to consumer sales, will be starting up an ecommerce division. Wondering if anyone can confirm or deny this (GloMar response is acceptable)?
Overall, I'd say I'm not a fan of being in direct competition with our suppliers. Back when the folks at Tucker Rocky went down this road, it was the catalyst for a multitude of dealers to move their aftermarket business to other suppliers.
We know that other OE vendors like Polaris Inc. are directly competing with their dealers, and while dealers really dislike it (because they are at a huge disadvantage - especially those who have seen items being retailed at less than dealer cost), there are less options with the OEs. Most dealers also believe that Parts Unlimited - We Support the Sport also uses a shell company to support ecommerce, but I've never been down that rabbit hole.
Anyway, if anyone has the inside scoop on this, please let me know. And, for everyone else, what are your thoughts about being in competition with your vendors? Would it be a big enough issue for you to consider moving your purchasing power elsewhere? I know the folks at Turn 14 Distribution, Inc. would desperately love to win back some powersports business.

In 2017 when TR filed bankruptcy, I knew this was the beginning of Powersports D2C. With this thought, I knew the Powersports industry was vulnerable. As the years have went by, I’m realizing that it’s not just Powersports dealerships, it ALL dealerships are vulnerable. With social media algorithms raising up what people want to see, small brands are now able to win more attention than big name brands and distributors. This allows the small brands to sell more directly to consumers, in turn making more profit. I hate to say it, but the days of distributors are numbered. Small brands are now taking their sales and distributions back in house, and these big conglomerates are hurting.
The way it works now, is a consumer goes to a dealership for a part, the dealership doesn’t stock said part, so they order it from a distributor, the distributor doesn’t have it in stock, and doesn’t have an ETA.
When the consumer could simply jump on the phone in their pocket, order the part direct from the brand, and it arrives at their door. Warrienties require you to work with the brand anyway. And this option is cheaper than paying 2 more entities to handle and charge % more for them to make their money.

⏰ Quick Ticket Thoughts ⏰
The rumored 20,000+ deposits... $100 each, refundable. Without posting the full pricing structure... the Smith Entertainment Group has a lot of new leads and information on customers. However, they'll be able to increase the pricing a bit based off the initial numbers. The interest is obviously there, not necessarily demand (yet)-- there's a difference.
Money talks.

⏺ The organization is probably going to hold onto anywhere from 15-30% of inventory for single game tickets, flex plans, etc. I think this number fluctuates based off of actual number of season tickets purchased when pricing is set. ⏺
Supposedly, priority will go to Jazz season ticket holders 👉 less than 15% of deposits fit this description.
