In a strange event today, while trying to deploy a #Salesforce #Flow, I came to understand the mystery behind Flow Definitions, using Spotify! “Find your flow”, said Spotify to me today while suggesting a new musical genre in a rainy day: Jazz! I am using #gearset to deploy, and have been deploying Flow definitions instead of Flows three times while complaining that the the tool is a scam 🥲! Here is a brief explanation: Salesforce made changes to the way Flow metadata works in its Winter ‘19 release (v44 of the Metadata API). Previously, Flow versions had been managed using filenames, and Flow Definitions were critical bits of metadata because they defined which Flow was the active version. In 2019, Salesforce recognized that this approach was at odds with using version control, so it transformed Flows — making Flow deployments quite different in the process. Next time you deploy a brand new Flow, deploy a Flow or a Flow definition metadata type, if you want to change the active version of an existing Flow, deploy a Flow definition!
