Your sales training activities need to meet the learning needs of a diverse workforce. Today, people learn better in different ways, whether that be short-form microlearning that mimics the content they consume in their personal life, or alternative spins on traditional lessons that engage reps in new ways. Addressing this within the sales training process is key. Sales training tip #6: Deliver training with your diverse workforce in mind. Many reps in 2024 prefer informal, bite-sized microlearning content that can be accessed on-demand, wherever and whenever they need. For example, adding offline learning capabilities for reps that choose to learn on a mobile device, and may be training on-the-go. This could also apply to career development, something deeply important to your employees. Many of your SDR’s will want to move into quota-carrying roles, like account executives or account managers. The skills required to be an SDR don’t perfectly align with the traits of AE’s or AM’s, so attempt to identify those gaps and deliver training that helps close them, so reps leave the training feeling satisfied on a deeper level. Working with a team full of individuals who are very different paths, with different goals and learning styles can be a challenge, but successfully addressing their pressure points will pay off immensely once the training is over, and ultimately will help the team retain information and tighten focus. My teaching skills saved my ass on Friday! Teachers-You were made for a job in PreSales! Boss: “Can you take this presentation? It starts in 10 minutes. 😳 Me: Mid coffee and not ‘camera ready.’ “Sure!" Teachers think on their feet, pivot all of the time and flexibility is a job requirement! To land my role in Edtech, I leveraged my 11 years of teaching experience. The ‘teacher’ skills I use on a daily basis: 1) 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: Teachers use every available minute to grade, plan, prep and reflect. In my PreSales role, I can get a lot done in a short amount of time. This is a rare and valuable skill! 2) 𝗙𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Teachers have to be ready for the unexpected! Fire drill, assembly, student puking in the trash can 🤮 In my PreSales role, I have to be ready for unexpected questions, a shift in audience and need, and last-minute presentations. 3) 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺-𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴: As a teacher, I used data to actively find solutions to improve student engagement and outcomes. In my PreSales role, I use data and feedback to find ways to increase customer engagement and strategize ways to increase revenue. What soft skills do you use daily in your current role? 𝙋.𝙎. 𝙎𝙤𝙛𝙩 𝙨𝙠𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙨 𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙤𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙣 𝙬𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙝𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙙!! But it is very possible to make a career transition with a network of support to help you land the job.
