Grateful for this insightful report by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, highlighting the necessity of EPR policies for textiles to prevent our deserts and lands from being covered with discarded threads. ReviveTex is in its first phase, with a vision of establishing a collection infrastructure to prevent leaks in the fashion industry's circular loop. GFC2023 has called researchers to reflect upon citizenship and how each decision maker within the Fashion System may contribute to a more sustainable Fashion, to Fashion for the Common Good. POLITICIANS AND LAWMAKERS AS DECISION MAKERS Natália Moreira from HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht (Hogeschool Utrecht) in the Netherlands and Kirsi Niinimaki from Aalto University, Finland have presented "Implementing a Circular Ecosystem from post- consumer textiles: the New Cotton Project" The creation of circular solutions in the field of textile and fashion has been growing with regulation and policies increasingly pushing for changes in the field, however these developments tend to follow highly secretive paths due to intellectual property fears. The New Cotton Project (a European Union funded project composed of twelve partners based in Europe and Turkey) was then envisioned with the potential to create a roadmap which could in turn promote tools and stages for transitioning from linear means of production to sustainable and circular alternatives. The take-make-dispose culture is one of the biggest pitfalls of the textile industry and responses to it have been urged by consumers as well as other stakeholders. This paper brings forth the New Cotton Project’s experience and demonstrates, through a multi-level perspective how a fibre can change its role and encourage circular transitions. Developed using mixed methods of data collection and thorough analysis the paper presents indicators and barriers to achieving more sustainable production through the use of a circular ecosystem where partners collect post-consumer cellulosic products to supply a value chain which in turn delivers garment capsulate collections to the market. 🌐🛍️ Yesterday was a whirl win trip where I was part of a productive session at Next's head office in Leicester! 🤝💬 I engaged in insightful discussions with the Textiles 2030 Metric Working Group, delving into the latest reports on the UK's strides in reducing the environmental impact of textiles. 🌿📊 Explored both low and high-impact improvements set to shape the upcoming years' reporting. Discussed the intriguing challenge of retail overproduction—why it happens and innovative ways to prevent it. 🛒💡 Dived deep into the concept of displacement rates for the UK, unraveling the correlation between new clothing purchases and the rise of second-hand acquisitions. 🔄👗 A significant portion of our time was devoted to refining the footprint tool used by all Textiles 2030 signatories. 🛠️💼 Collaborated across sectors, from production and distribution to retail sales, reuse markets, and recycling. 🌍🤝 Exciting times lie ahead as we collectively work toward a more sustainable future for the textile industry! 🚀💚 #Textiles2030 #SustainableFashion #EnvironmentalImpact #TextileIndustry #NextFashion #CollaborationForChange 🌐

The fashion brand Diane von Frustenberg (DVF) has announced their new collaboration with Lenzing Group, who produce speciality fibres. The purpose of this collaboration will be for DVF to use Lenzing’s Tencel and Ecovero fibres within its designs, so that their clothes can become environmentally friendly and can showcase greener manufacturing and responsible choices within the fashion industry. Last week, our managing director Katrin Ley participated in Changing the Fashion Industry session at the DLD Circular 2023 in Munich 👏 In this particular session, Patrik Lundström from our innovator Renewcell, Gudrun Messias from adidas, and David Puyuelo Huguet from COLEO joined as panellists, and it was moderated by Jennifer Schenker from The Innovator. These industry experts discussed how circular innovations can be a driving force in changing the fashion industry. A few insightful points were highlighted in her talk: ✅ To address the impacts in the fashion industry — carbon, waste, water, etc. — business as usual is not enough. Scaling innovation across all steps in the supply chain is key for industry transformation. ✅ Over the last 5 years, the interest in circularity and innovation has grown exponentially. Fashion for Good alone has scouted and screened more than 3000 innovators, supported more than 150, and raised financing of more than 1.5 billion euros. ✅ We need to address key barriers to unlock further scaling of hard-tech innovations, which is mostly related to 3 actors: innovators, industry, and investors.
