My heart is asking me to listen on sidewalks a lot and double down on writing my book on Sidewalk Talk. And May marks 9 years of Sidewalk Talk. Happy Birthday Sidewalk Talk. 🎂 Holy $hittballs you have taught me a lot. I am doing "book therapy" right now because I want to say some dangerous stuff about our dehumanizing ways. I want to be clear in my psyche as I write. The Identity Trap (yes a nod to Yascha Mounk's book of the same name) we are in right now I will roar about. Listening on sidewalks has chipped away at my reverence to identity obsession while I remain committed to inclusion and justice. I am glad to have sorted how to run Sidewalk Talk sustainably to my spirit while allowing it to safely expand. I burnt myself out three years ago. Lots of soul work, mistakes, learning boundaries. Operationally, Sidewalk Talk has expanded beyond a background checked chapter leader model where folks must pay to be a leader bc the application process is costly. Many just wanted to listen with a friend and not do a chapter. So...Tah Dah...we listened. Sidewalk Talk now gives you the "How To" to grab a friend and go listen in a friend group on the Sidewalk safely and effectively for FREE ... not even needing to be expressly part of Sidewalk Talk. A complete democratization. We still charge money for our trainings on Listening and Conflict resolution and chapter leadership so we can cover operating expenses. I absolutely love working with the community. It is my biggest joy. 😀 🌟 Had a fantastic Saturday afternoon leading a workshop with the Bruthen Arts & Events Council Inc (BEAC). 🌟 We set out with a super ambitious agenda, and we nailed it! The group was incredibly engaged, active, and brimming with brilliant insights. Here's a quick snapshot of what we covered: 🔮 Visioning: BAEC dreamt big, discussing the exciting future thinking of what success looks like. 📈 Strategy: We delved into the strategic planning process, exploring different pathways to turn the vision into reality. ✅ Actions: From brainstorming to planning, we worked on specific, actionable steps to make things happen. 🎯 Prioritising: With so many amazing ideas on the table, we had to decide where to start. Our discussions on prioritisation were enlightening. 🌿 Understanding the Sustainability of Community Groups: Ensuring the group's long-term viability, not just financially but also socially and people centered, was a crucial topic. 🎲 Dicey Debrief: We even spiced things up with a "Dicey Debrief" to add a fun and interactive touch to our reflections and insights. Kudos to the entire team for their active participation and the ripping thoughts they shared. It's clear that this group has a lot of big ideas to continue its support of Bruthen and surrounds, as well as the broader East Gippsland community and beyond. Let's take a step back for a sec. Excited to be gearing up for Shoptalk in Las Vegas in the next few weeks! It's always a privilege to attend such events, especially in luxurious settings, where we get to showcase our latest projects and accomplishments. However, let's take a moment to reflect. A good friend recently shared a YouTube video shedding light on the realities of people living underground in Las Vegas. It serves as a poignant reminder of the stark contrast between the worlds above and below ground. As we engage in discussions about our exciting ecomm projects, it's crucial to acknowledge our privileges. While we conduct business above ground, there are people struggling below us, literally. If you happen to cross paths with a homeless person while walking to your Cirque du Soleil's show or browsing one of the numerous Rolex shops on the Strip, consider extending a helping hand. Even a small gesture, like offering a few dollars, can make a significant difference to someone in need. Let's carry our success with humility and compassion, recognizing the importance of giving back to those less fortunate.
