🌈 Event feedback - 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗶𝘁? 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁? 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸? 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲? ➡ We all know event feedback is crucial for assessing an event's performance, improving its quality, and ensuring that it meets the needs and expectations of attendees. It's a valuable tool for event organisers to make data-driven decisions and enhance their future events. 🏏 So why is it that I feel reluctant to be honest on a feedback form from 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯, post Tuesday’s rain abandoned England v Ireland ODI? Is it out of loyalty to my local ground? Is it because I’m aware that it’s a non-Test match venue or was it out of sympathy for the ground staff? It’s all of those things but it’s also having experienced being on the other side of the fence when things occasionally don’t always go to plan. Negative feedback post event or during an event can feel demoralising when something beyond your control is happening. There are many reasons why the game was abandoned on Tuesday, some that I can easily understand and others that I would only know if I worked behind the scenes at the club. 📋 We all crave ‘constructive feedback’ but depending on the circumstances it may not be communicated constructively. As an organiser, you need to look beyond any vented, frustrated tones and live the journey in each of your attendee's shoes. It will allow you to either tweak and improve, embrace a wholesale change or show understanding even if you disagree. Some things can’t always change immediately (e.g. budget constraints), but it’s essential to have all the info at your disposal. I witnessed some glorious cricket with family/friends, I just wanted more.
