The Climate Change Superfund Act is having a moment in the spotlight now that a similar law passed both houses in Vermont‘s legislature, mounting the pressure on lawmakers to get New York’s version across the finish line. The bill applies the “polluters pay” principle to climate change: if a company spills oil and pollutes a river, it’s required to pay for the clean up. The legislation proposes the same for those that wrecked the atmosphere and contributed to climate change. https://lnkd.in/etkTWF8j

THE FUTURE OF CLIMATE BELONGS TO CHILDREN Today's win in the courts marks a major victory for climate justice and young people worldwide, fighting for a safer future. Children as inheritors of a carbon-free world after the climate crisis is solved is multifaceted and crucial. Their unique position as future leaders, advocates, and innovators, combined with their deep understanding of the consequences of inaction by today's generation, positions them to drive positive change and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come. Children are the ones who will live the longest in the post-climate-crisis world. They will experience the consequences of the actions taken today to mitigate climate change. Since climate change is a long-term issue, the actions we take now will significantly impact the quality of life for future generations, making it imperative for children to inherit a carbon-free world where they can breathe clean air and drink clean water. The younger generation is more attuned to cultural shifts and social norms. They are likely to embrace eco-friendly practices and lifestyles, inspiring broader societal changes toward sustainability. This can lead to a domino effect, influencing industries, consumer behaviour, and societal expectations. Schools and educational institutions are increasingly incorporating environmental education into their curricula. This emphasis on environmental responsibility can equip children with the knowledge and values necessary to prioritize sustainability in their personal and professional lives. Children will have a vested interest in maintaining a carbon-free world, which can drive them to vote for leaders who prioritize sustainable policies, enact stringent environmental regulations, and allocate resources to renewable energy initiatives.
