Reflecting on 8 Years at Google: Lessons from the Road Today is my 8th Googleversary (meaning I spent eight years dedicated to empowering developers and founders at Google), and I can't help but draw parallels between my journey here and my passion for road biking. Both require dedication, perseverance, and a constant drive to improve. Here are a few things I've learned along the way: 1. Consistency is Key: Just like building endurance on the bike takes countless hours of training, a successful career at a company like Google builds on consistent effort and commitment. It's about showing up every day, ready to learn and grow. 2. Surround Yourself with Great People: In cycling, I seek out riders and challenges pushing me beyond my comfort zone. They help benchmark my skills and support my growth. The same applies to my work life. I'm grateful for the incredible colleagues who challenge me, inspire me, and make me better at what I do. 3. Teamwork Makes the Dream Work: A single rider doesn't achieve a grand tour victory. It takes a whole team -- from your fellow riders in the field to the mechanics to support staff -- working together seamlessly. Similarly, we all contribute to a bigger picture at Google, impacting our users, community, and each other. 4. Know Your Stuff: Every cyclist should understand their bike's mechanics. Similarly, transitioning from an Individual Contributor to leading a team across EMEA required me to constantly learn and adapt while knowing how to "walk the walk" and not just "talk the talk". 5. The Lifestyle and Perks: I love riding a new, shiny bike. It motivates me to get out there and ride more. The same goes for workplace perks. They shouldn't be the sole reason you work somewhere but enhance your experience, making you feel valued and connected to your work. 6. Celebrate the Small Things: In cycling, we celebrate PRs and conquering tough descents. In our careers, we should also acknowledge the small milestones. They're the building blocks of our more significant achievements and keep us motivated along the way. Here's to many more years of learning, growth, and exciting challenges, both on and off the bike! I also want to take a moment to thank all my colleagues and collaborators who contributed to a wonderful time here at Google -- I am deeply appreciative! 🚴♂️ #Googleversary #Teamwork #GrowthMindset
