The latest version of our ODL Live route optimiser/scheduler engine supports automatically generating delivery routes which consider the energy impact of the on-board load and can minimise total energy usage rather than just distance or driving time. The following infographic shows a (slightly exaggerated!) example. The larger stops correspond to heavier deliveries. On the left, we modelled driving cost as being equal to km travelled. On the right, we modelled driving cost as a constant + (km x current_load_on_board). As a result on the right, the heavier deliveries are dropped off earlier, which means the longer journeys are done with only a small load on-board, using less energy. For a traditional parcel delivery truck, the weight of parcels is probably negligible compared to the weight of the truck itself. For more environmentally-friendly vehicles like electric cargo bikes, the on-board weight becomes much more relevant though, particularly if delivering bulky items like food from supermarkets. #routeoptimization #routeplanning #greenlogistics

The eTrailer provides supporting propulsion which allows significant diesel and CO₂ emission reduction when combined with traditional internal combustion tractors, extends the driving range when combined with an electric powered tractor, and has the capability to power electrified or traditional trailer refrigeration units (TRUs). Thermo King will provide its industry expertise on electrification and transport refrigeration solutions. The collaboration will enable integration of technologies to revolutionize the industry, providing enhanced logistics capabilities for trade, industry, and freight forwarders, hauling fresh and frozen goods.
