I had a dream! 🌟 When we started the rebuild of Macurco in 2012, one key goal was to create a vision that the whole team could buy into. Despite the inevitable ups and downs over the years, we have persevered. Some ask, what are the keys to our success? There is no magic sauce here. Creating a workplace where people feel comfortable and eager to come in most days has been crucial. Let's face it, we all have those days where staying home seems tempting! 😂 Undeniably, teamwork is essential. The importance of collaborating effectively cannot be overstated. While some may debate this, being available for everyone has proven to be vital in our journey. Staying true to your path is important, but so is the ability to pivot, embrace new ideas, and remain flexible. Above all, viewing failure not as a setback but as a stepping stone in our journey has been the most critical lesson. Failure is an opportunity to learn and grow, ultimately propelling us forward. Macurco continues to grow, add new faces, and climb new mountains. Hello friends!!! I am thrilled to share that I am starting a new role at Tipping and excited to begin a new chapter in my career. After nearly 20 years of practice and team management in a primarily technical role in the Bay Area and Toronto, I will be pivoting my focus to client support and business development, while still consulting and supporting various functions on projects from initial design to construction. As client relations and business development specialist at Tipping, I will be dedicated to the advancement of the firm’s mission and values, as well as helping to sustain a culture of exceptional client service. In this new role, I am excited to nurture authentic relationships, identify synergies and opportunities, and continue to do what I have always enjoyed: facilitating connections between various professionals and specialists within the design and construction community. I am deeply committed to listening and learning about our clients’ goals and challenges and keen to help Tipping be even more responsive, nimble, and valuable to our partners and collaborators. As we navigate the current economic and environmental landscape, I aspire to strengthen our relationships, expand our practice, and enhance our client services. Thank you to all my friends, my hubby, parents, kids, and other family / community members, managers, design consultants, clients, co-chairs / co-leads, and partners who have supported me along the way through all the mentorship, coaching, continuing education seminars, learning, licensing exams, etc. to get here. This includes young engineers who have worked with me over the span of my career. Over the globe! Good morning from lovely Melbourne! Early in the night I arrived here to spend some expectant and interesting days. With nearly 20 hours of total flight time (without airport travels) I might can say I nearly finished a #marathon business-wise. As it was more or less exactly one year when I was travelling to LA it seems that October might be a good month for international travels as well as a good month to sell fasteners #madeingermany. :-) We as REISSER-Schraubentechnik GmbH know that our home market is Europe, but to learn from the world helps us to understand applications even better as we are all #different. And that‘s really necessary as then we know our #manufacturingcompetence to bring in the most as a #standardfastener always will be a #standardfastener. Roundabouts or red lights, which one is better? To solve the logistics of road intersections, there´s typically two predominant ways to go about it, red light crossings or roundabouts. It is when you investigate the parameters of safety, cost and throughput as things gets interesting, stop a sec and guess, on which one would you place your bet? Cheaper to build? Safer? Higher throughput? Yes, it is the roundabout on all three! And not only that, it´s also a beautifully engineered simple system for self-organisation. As long as you keep to the simple rules of following the traffic direction, don´t bump into the car in front of you and give way to the cars in the roundabout, voila! I think this is worth-while reflecting on. We tend to rely too heavily on control and command systems and seem to have an over-belief in them.  You are often more capable than you think. What if we organized ourselves in the business along the same line of thinking? How would your roundabout organization look like? This weekend, I joined my friend on his budding piloting career to the skies. En route from Bankstown to Merimbula, I couldn't help but notice the parallels between flying a plane and recruitment. 🛩  Pre-flight Checks: Prior to take-off, we ensured the plane had a full tank and a purring engine, similar to meticulous pre-employment and reference checks in recruitment. Safety first, right? 🛩  Navigating Turbulence: Our flight to Merimbula was smooth as butter, but on the way back, we hit some crazy turbulence. Our solution? Go higher! In recruitment, we sometimes need to think outside the box when dealing with turbulent candidates. Be this through working around tricky personal life schedules or handling complaints, creative thinking helps keep everything stable. 🛩  Communication: We talked more to air traffic controllers than ourselves. In recruitment we must keep tabs on clients and candidates to make sure everyone's on the same flight path and avoiding collision. 🛩  Landing Safely: Just like a successful flight ends with a safe landing, a successful recruitment concludes with a smooth onboarding. It was a pretty special day, with regular sightings of splashing whales and playful pods of dolphins. The sense of joy when witnessing this was akin to witnessing candidates, clients and businesses thriving with a successful new hire.
