Don’t get us wrong, specialists are excellent team members and provide specific guidance and expertise in their given area of focus. BUT, if you want the most bang for your buck, you’re going to want to hire people that have a solid understanding of many aspects within marketing. As a Social Media Manager, i think one crucial question to ask Recruiters and Hiring Managers before accepting a job is : Does anyone in the company currently have a strong understanding of Digital Marketing? Having someone who recognizes the value of marketing eliminates confusion, enabling you to carry out your role effectively. It's not just about doing the work; it's about understanding your value and acknowledging that marketing is a strategic process. I've noticed a common challenge in many companies – hiring a Digital Marketing Manager but struggling to empower them to do their job effectively. Everyone seems to have an opinion on how things should be done, making it challenging for marketing strategies to unfold as planned. The key is fostering a collaborative environment where expertise is valued and strategies can thrive. Trust the expert!

We are hiring for a Head of Marketing. Our former Head of Marketing, Corey Brown, is taking his shot as an entrepreneur, a business owner. He's spent the past two years leveling us up big-time. We have a solid foundation, and an "always-on" machine. Our brand is experiencing tremendous growth that is obvious to the naked eye, but more importantly, backed by data. Data I'll be eager to share with any viable candidates. The Head of Marketing will join a team with two very talented team members in Eric Jefferson (Brand) and Ashley Jackson (Digital), and will have an immediate role open to fill any additional gaps he/she discovers. We have a CEO in Christian Hyatt that is a natural marketer, that believes in marketing. You could say we are a marketing-led organization. Marketing doesn't struggle with legitimacy issues here - it's core to our strategy. That's not to say you'll never have a hard day here. We are seven years old, after all, and have a lot of maturing ahead of us. We have problems, but they're based on navigating unique challenges largely brought on by our rapid ascension in the market. High-class problems, mostly, none of which are brought on by ego, competing priorities or bad apples. They're problems inherent in this stage of the journey. Solvable. Fun even. Eager to see the level of talent this role attracts. If you've been even passively watching what we've been doing over here the past few years, I would suspect there'd be a lot of interest. If I am hiring someone for social media, what should I ask them to do? If you're hiring someone, ask him/her what they think. You should let them present to you what they think and then see if it resonates with what you believe in. Stop telling people you hire what they should do and how they should do it. If you think they can't do anything without you, then you have hired the wrong person. It's on you. If you are confident that you have hired the right person, then leave their hand. Let them do it their way. If it doesn't work in months, then tell them how should they do it. This isn't what I am saying. This is what GaryVee is saying. He and I both are saying the right thing. How do we know? We work in marketing. This is our bread and butter. This is our day-to-day job. This isn't something we have just picked up one day to give our opinion on.

In 2017, I was interviewing for a marketing position with social media management as one of the responsibilities. They required every post to be approved by legal. I immediately lost interest in the role and even got a call from HR on the drive home, wondering why I was no longer interested. A small handful of companies need every post green lit from legal. Most brands will be fine getting legal to scrub through bigger campaigns and messaging. A lengthy approval process is going to limit your success on social media. Trust the individuals you hire. #SocialMediaManagement
