A new step forward for #Eurodrone programme: the Preliminary Design Review (PDR) has been successfully performed. This PDR proves that the initial design of the aircraft has consistently matured, paving the way to proceed with the detailed design. For example, the Wind Tunnel Testing has been one of the evaluations performed by the Eurodrone team to confirm the aerodynamic. This milestone shows a real joint effort and collaborative spirit from all industrial partners and the Customer community to ensure European sovereignty and independence in this critical segment of unmanned long endurance ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance) capability. Led by Airbus Defence and Space as prime contractor, this major programme milestone has been completed with OCCAR and representatives of the four customer nations (France, Germany, Italy and Spain) in the presence of the three Major Sub-Contractors (MSC), Airbus Defence and Space Spain, Dassault Aviation and Leonardo. Eurodrone is a key European defence programme: it will be the first natively designed and will guarantee the sovereignty and independence in the management of information and intelligence. 🤩 The Eurodrone program has completed its Preliminary Design Review process. Prime contractor Airbus Defence and Space led the review, involving subcontractors Airbus Defence and Space Spain, Dassault Aviation, and Leonardo. The 🇫🇷🇩🇪🇪🇸 #NGWS within #FCAS programme held its Programme Progress Review on Pillar 3. ❓Pillar 3 is about the development of remote carriers demonstrators (RCD1, RCD2) to mature future operational products and the MCSD whose maiden flight is scheduled in phase 1B to notably demonstrate Manned Unmanned teaming. ☀️ Needless to say that light is shed on remote carriers as they are considered as game changers for future operations with many challenges to take up : modularity, affordability, multiplier/mass effect, bringing various sensors to the operation field and teaming with pilots. Led by Airbus Defence and Space as prime contractor, this major programme milestone has been completed with OCCAR and representatives of the four customer nations (France, Germany, Italy and Spain) in the presence of the three Major Sub-Contractors (MSC), Airbus Defence and Space Spain, Dassault Aviation and Leonardo. The PDR proves that the initial design of the aircraft has consistently matured, paving the way to proceed with the detailed design. It is the outcome of different technical assessments and evaluations conducted, such as Wind Tunnel Testing to confirm the aerodynamic configuration of Eurodrone, the overall design to ensure demonstration of operational capability, and the validation of a fully representative Digital Twin. From the very beginning, the Eurodrone programme benefits from both design philosophies – physical and digital. The European Medium Altitude Long Endurance Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (MALE RPAS), or Eurodrone, is a twin-turboprop MALE UAV under development by Airbus, Dassault Aviation and Leonardo for Germany, France, Italy and Spain, with a first flight expected by mid-2027. Supported by and based on the knowledge already gathered, the Eurodrone programme enters into a new phase to reach the Critical Design Review (CDR), which will represent the final step and closure of architecture and system design. BAE Systems has acquired Malloy Aeronautics Ltd. – a leading company in innovative heavy lift drone and aeronautical technologies. Malloy Aeronautics designs and supplies all-electric uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) to both civil and military customers. Their range of uncrewed, heavy lift quadcopters are capable of lifting payloads from 68kg to 300kg over short to medium range missions. These platforms offer interchangeable capabilities and greater flexibility at a fraction of the cost and time of more traditional methods, whilst minimising risk to more expensive assets and human life. “Our acquisition of Malloy Aeronautics is part of our ongoing strategy to develop and invest in breakthrough technologies which augment our existing capabilities and provide our customers with the innovation they need in response to evolving requirements.  We’re confident that the synergy between our two companies will pave the way for even greater achievements in uncrewed aerial systems and technologies,” said Simon Barnes, Group Managing Director of BAE Systems’ Air sector.
