I asked our 𝐂𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 and 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 teams, what they liked most about working for AECOM. 🟢𝐅𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, great people, fantastic projects 🟢The 𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 as well as working with many different people. 🟢I am one of the ED&I Advocates within the business and we have an active and passionate group of Champions across all our offices. We work closely with our ED&I Ambassadors to 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 in the business. We encourage people to come forward to bring issues to the table so that we can collectively resolve them. 🟢The onboarding process at AECOM is great. 𝐈 𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 on my first day with a warm welcome! It was great to have a buddy assigned to me before my start date so I could ask any questions. My buddy was also on hand to show me around and ask any questions whilst I was bedding in. 🟢With two toddlers, AECOM's 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐨 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰 and hybrid working have been invaluable. I can collect my kids and handle sickness worry-free, knowing AECOM fully supports me 🟢At AECOM, I feel like 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐈 𝐝𝐨 𝐢𝐬 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝. I love being able to make a meaningful contribution to the projects I work on 🟢Having worked for AECOM since 2008, the reputation, resources and knowledge base internally have allowed me to 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐬, working with signature architects, great clients and grandees of London development. #AucklandAirport has been taking a lot of flack in the media recently about their Transport Hub improvements that are currently underway (example from Stuff in the comments below). Are we quick to lose sight of the enormity of this task?! It’s bad enough to live in a house while renovating, but imagine the logistical nightmare it must be to manage these improvements in a live environment with a constant stream of travellers coming and going and a need to keep everyone safe. My hat goes off to all the #programmemanagers, #projectmanagers and site teams delivering this project - not easy, but absolutely necessary. The outcome is looking great. As with most things in project management, there will always be short term pain for long term gain! I think we are quick to lose sight of this. #construction #projectmanagement

During my second week of work experience, I worked at AECOM. In this role, I learned about the operations of the AECOM office I worked at: railways. This helped to deepen my understanding of the different roles available to an Engineer, and the different routes to become a Chartered Engineer. Some of the highlights and insight I gained from this work experience: Learning about the key principles of project management: low cost, high quality and done quickly, their combinations and trade-offs. I then applied these principles to a task of: planning how to create squash, making it, formatting the plan into a Gantt (waterfall) chart, risk assessing the tasks and calculating the (theoretical) costs associated with the whole process. Although this may have seemed like a simple task, I learned that I had to consider many factors when creating a set of tasks for a project such as thinking time, safety and setting clear instructions so that anybody could use the program without any ambiguity Attending a meeting with the civil engineering group. This experience opened my eyes on the projects and structure of meetings undertaken by the group. It was especially intriguing that the first part of the meeting was about mental health and anxiety: the different types of anxiety (such as physical and psychological), how to deal with it personally and with others, and the ask twice rule when asking how other people are. This showed to me that it is really important that we check the wellbeing of those around us and are open in discussions concerning any problems we have, with even a simple chat at a coffee shop helping to ease problems. Level crossings: their uses and the dangers associated with them while also thinking of ways to help improve safety through online awareness campaigns. Learning the basics of using CAD software: rotating, copying, moving and aligning preset objects to help finish off a floor plan of the AECOM office in Swindon. Thank you AECOM for allowing me to have this valuable work experience.
