One thing that we knew would be critical to Descartes Peoplevox being a success was that it performed at BFCM. In the early days, we hit the same scaling issues every system that handles inventory and orders does. Gymshark broke us and everyone else quite severely one BFCM, but we figured out the underlying issues, and they paved the way for innovation, which means all the brands following in their footsteps can take advantage of it. Lounge wasn't far behind them or far away geographically. I remember them doing something mad like a million in an hour. Can't imagine the numbers now, must be huge! The guys who founded AYBL previously had Tayroc, who once had a warehouse across from Lounge. They phoned up mid-covid and made the decision to replace Linnworks with Peoplevox in about an hour. I watched a video on YouTube of their case study recently which has crossed 20,000 views. Worth looking up if you've not seen it. Sisters and Seekers Ltd have crossed £1M in a day today. It is phenomenal thinking that they put Peoplevox in when they had five people in the warehouse. This is what you invest ahead for. Yes, you can outsource your warehouse to a 3PL, and they can do a great job, but you can also DIY. You're certainly not gaining an edge if you just do what everyone else does, right? I'm working with Jamie Clark and Kirsten C. with a few clients at the moment; with one they're running the process to find a warehouse for a brand that is committed to operating and scaling their brand on their terms. It's not easy to do, it's very hard, which is why not everyone will do it. Hard things you do and others won't or don't do become your advantages. There's some story to that. Doing your own warehouse, it's exhausting, but it is also a fun part of the journey. I often find it attracts operators to a business, the kind that likes to roll their sleeves up. COOs with their arms around Customer Service and the Fulfilment Operation just have more leavers to pull on. #ecommerce #BFCM
