After years of developing new condos, townhomes and single-family homes for Chinese immigrants and investors in Chicago’s Chinatown, Bridgeport and McKinley Park neighborhoods, Jack An was ready to venture into commercial real estate. To make the pivot, he pursued a master of science in real estate from the Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate. Jack is now a senior investment analyst for Transformco Properties, where he does underwriting, financial modeling and forecasting cash flows in the repurposing of former big box retail stores such as Kmart and Sears stores. “We seek to maximize value and find the best strategies for those properties whether through a sublease, build to suit or conversion to multifamily, storage or other type of facility,” Jack said. Highlights from his time at MBIRE include being treasurer of the real estate club, attending networking events and making connections with advisory board members.
