I believe that although seeing an alligator in a vegetated swale can be shocking, it is part of one of the objectives of the SUDS technique, which is evidently being properly fulfilled, namely the restoration of natural ecosystem habitats. This involves restoring natural wildlife habitats by finding green spaces reinstated after being fragmented prior to the implementation of the SUDS. #floodcontrol #greeninfraestructure #greenways #naturebasedsolutions #natureinthecity #streamrestoration #ecosystemservices #greencities #FourPillars
We talk about wildlife in SuDS a lot, and I love to see all the insects and small birds in SuDS ponds and basins, but imagine living in Venice, Florida and seeing this wandering across your swale 😮 With thanks to my friend Angela who lives there and knows that I love everything to do with SuDS.
