Today The Lubrizol Corporation's People of African Diaspora (L-PAD) employee resource group hosted a multi-site event in honor of Black History Month. During this event our employees learned more about black history as well as the concept of intersectionality, followed by an authentic and engaging panel discussion led by Lubrizol employees from the U.S., Brazil and Nigeria. This event would not have been possible without the extraordinary work of our dedicated L-Pad core leadership team. A special thanks to Kasi David, Ph.D., La'Ronjanae Curtis, Rosheeda Bryant, Christina Penrose, Jakell Wilson, Adilson Lima, Shy'Ann J. and KOLAWOLE RAJI for bringing your diverse perspectives, being vulnerable and sharing your passion for creating a culture that truly embraces inclusion, diversity and equity. #OneLubrizol #TeamLubrizol

Celebrating Black History Month and Career Conversations with R. Lonie Scott Sr. Director, Global Strategic Accounts. In my position with PCI Pharma Services, I build, grow, and manage business and relationships with key large pharmaceutical and biologics companies. I grew up relatively disadvantaged and am naturally motivated to succeed for my own sake and to create space for future generations. To me, Black History Month is a time to reflect on the challenging history of African American people. It's also a time to celebrate the resilience and determination of this group, many of whom are my ancestors. Despite challenging circumstances, African Americans have contributed tremendously to the world through their remarkable inventions, talents, and inspirational actions. A month focused on Black History gives everyone a chance to pay homage to this group of people… my people! A workplace that promotes inclusion must also take care to prioritize equity and create a feeling of belonging. In an inclusive workplace, there is representation from diverse groups of all sizes. A true sense of belonging is established when every person feels valued and sees their voice as significant in crucial discussions, company direction, and strategic decision-making. In short, diversity invites everyone to the dinner, inclusion ensures everyone gets to eat, and a sense of belonging occurs when everyone can choose equitably from the same menu. #BlackHistoryMonth #BHM #ESG #LetsTalkFuture

As Opal Lee, the Grandmother of Juneteenth, stated, "Juneteenth has never been a celebration of victory, or an acceptance of the way things are. Instead it’s a celebration of progress." The legacy of this day, and of Opal Lee's successful, decades-long fight to make it a Federal holiday, shows us the value of never giving up hope, and the importance of celebrating the change we can make when we stay committed and come together. Today's a day to celebrate, and also to reflect, educate and learn. It's a day to honor the resilience and contributions of African Americans, and the ongoing struggle for equality and justice. I had the opportunity to speak to PepsiCo employees during our annual Juneteenth celebration hosted by MOSAIC - a PepsiCo Employee Resource Group that works to make a positive impact on the careers of our Black employees and in our communities. You can watch my full remarks below to learn more about how PepsiCo and the PepsiCo Foundation come together in the spirit of commitment, togetherness and progress on Juneteenth and beyond.

I was honoured to add my voice to the conversation on inclusion during a Black History Month event at Cabinet Office | Le Bureau du Conseil des ministres. As a panelist, I was asked about the work to eliminate anti-Black racism in the Ontario Public Service/Ontario Government | Gouvernement de l’Ontario to make it a more equitable workplace. In my view, it comes down to these things: First, take the time to recognize people with drive. Give them opportunities and resources to do the work, and believe they will get the job done. Hold them accountable for the outcomes. No hardworking person wants to wonder if they got the job based on merit or if they're filling a diversity quota. Second, hiring managers screening potential candidates for 'cultural fit' should be wary of what culture they're looking to see on their teams. They should optimize to hire for 'higher cultures' of trust and respect. And look to establish a mix of employees who can collaborate well and communicate effectively. This celebration of Black history is not limited to the 28-29 days of February. It's an ongoing recognition of African heritage to acknowledge the contributions of Black Ontarians to the culture and this organization.

Celebrating Black History Month: Making a Difference in GRC 🌟🌐 During Black History Month, we pay tribute to the important contributions of African Americans in Governance, Risk Management, and Compliance (GRC). They have played a vital role in shaping the values of fairness, equity, and responsibility that are at the heart of GRC. 🌍Looking Back: African American leaders like Frederick Douglass, who fought for equal rights, and Rosa Parks, who stood up against unfairness, have made lasting impacts on our history. 🌎Connecting the Dots: In this industry, ethical leadership and risk management are closely connected with the values upheld by these inspiring individuals. Their commitment to making the right choices aligns well with the principles of following the rules and being responsible in business. 🌏A Lesson for GRC: This Black History Month, we can learn from these leaders who paved the way for change. Their stories remind us that doing the right thing and being responsible are not just important at work but are also key to creating a fair and just society. 🌍Together, we can continue their legacy by promoting fairness, equity, and responsibility in GRC. Let's celebrate both history and the bright future we're building together. #blackhistorymonth #grc #ethicalleadership #fairness #responsibility #inclusion
