Our new head of sales is the complete opposite of me. Finding and hiring him was a huge learning experience for me. Often we look for and hire people who make us feel comfortable and have the same characteristics as we have. But more often than not, that's the wrong person to hire. The skills we have help us succeed at doing certain tasks. In other areas, we may be lacking skills and therefore struggling. Hiring somebody that has the same skills as us is bringing more of the same issue back into the company. It would be smarter to find somebody who has a completely different set of character traits, talents, abilities, skill set, etc. so that they can solve the issues that we struggle with.
