It's a new year and it's time to reflect on the past year. I plan on spending this week highlighting five data points/trends that I saw in 2023 in the Dodge Construction Network starts data. Today it's all about single family starts. It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that single family construction is suffering in this high rate environment. That being said single family starts hit a low back in January and have risen in 8 of the 11 months in 2022 for which data is available. It's a long way back to where starts were in 2021, but 2024 should be a more conducive environment for housing.
