Soon, the EU Battery Regulations require certain batteries to have a digital battery passport. Some requirements on performance and durability reporting come into play in August already. TWAICE is part of the Battery Pass Consortium. The consortium helps guide the Battery Passport requirements. (Double) week that was Observation of the week: RAN energy savings - from talk to real deployments. According to my back-of-the-envelope count, we are active in 21 major AI-based automation projects around the world. This is no small feat, as lots of data feeds need to be integrated, deep dives with customer SMEs to happen, and there is a continued need for ML models “kaizen”. Out of the many solutions, currently the biggest topic is Power Savings Advisor (PSA). It’s been over a year since our White Paper was launched, and around three years since we first went live with PSA. Now, the energy savings mass market has caught up - a big wave of real-life deployment requests is coming our way as 5G roll-outs are settling in and focus has shifted to optimum “all-G” operations (my theory, what’s your take on this?) The EU's AFIR regulation is poised to alter the operational dynamics of charging stations—but how? The proposed regulation outlines mandatory national targets for the deployment of alternative fuels infrastructure across the EU, encompassing road vehicles, vessels, and stationary aircraft. Effective from April 13, 2024, AFIR mandates that charge point operators offer end users the option to charge their electric vehicles on an ad hoc basis at all public charging points they operate. Key requirements for charge point operators managing public charging points include: 1. Provision of automatic authentication, with the option for end users to opt out and charge on an ad hoc basis or utilize alternative contract-based charging solutions. 2. Availability of payment card readers and devices with contactless functionality. 3. Price transparency, ensuring that prices are discernible to EV drivers before the charging session commences and are easily comparable. 4. Ability to levy additional fees, such as parking or idle fees, to prevent charging point obstruction. 5. Ensuring that all public charging points constructed or repaired after April 13, 2024, are capable of smart charging. From 2025 onwards, deployment targets include: 1. Installation of fast recharging stations of at least 150 kW for cars and vans every 60 km along the EU's main transport corridors (TEN-T network). 2. Facilitation of easy payment at charging points using payment cards or contactless devices, without the need for subscriptions and with full price transparency. 3. Provision of comprehensive information to consumers via electronic means regarding station availability, waiting times, and prices at different stations.
