During the pandemic, Connecticut made it easier for providers and families to access behavioral health care by relaxing restrictions on using telehealth through June 2024. Legislators now have the opportunity to make telehealth provisions permanent. (https://ow.ly/kE9R50QyVLo) The policy brief: "Advancing Equity in Behavioral Health Through Telemedicine (2021)" examines the value of permanently expanding telehealth to support the fundamental delivery of health care. It includes four timely policy recommendations to support permanent telehealth access for children's behavioral health. This week we celebrate both #HealthEquityWeek and #NationalPublicHealthWeek, a time to reaffirm Connecticut’s commitment to eliminating health inequities and recognize the contributions of public health professionals to improve the health of people and communities across the state. Connecticut hospitals are committed to changing the systems that have contributed to health disparities and addressing public health challenges. Across Connecticut, hospitals are focused on delivering exceptional, high-quality care within and beyond hospital walls, focusing on challenging and changing the underlying factors that drive inequities in healthcare and focusing on collaborating with local partners to improve the health of communities. They are working to remove barriers to access and affordability, they are addressing health-related social needs, and they are engaging through CHA in statewide work, such as the Diaper Connections program and the implementation of a Statewide Maternal Health Strategy. All of these efforts aim to drive regional transformative change in #communityhealth, care delivery, and #healthequity. We have a long road ahead of us to continue working to make the entire healthcare system in our state and our nation more equitable and accessible.
