Thanks all sponsors and participants for a great meeting! The insights from such a meeting can be in anything: from a great keynote to a discussion in front of a science poster (or at the bowling track). As a somewhat arbitrary but cool example: I like the talk by Leonado Jo from the lab of Kaisa Kajala, who showed us how variable the barrier layers are in the roots of legumes (plants like chickpea, clover and beans). I also gave a talk myself about our Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) project about mirror images flowers. It is a story from molecular mechanism to ecology and evolution and a celebration of biodiversity in plant science. Although, at multiple stages in the project we also experienced how fragile the beautiful inventions of nature can be.
KeyGene is proud to be sponsor of the annual meeting of the Graduate School Experimental Plant again this year. The two-day event brings together over 450 PhD students and supervisors of six universities in a vibrant atmosphere.

This workshop explains statistical methods designed to determine if your experimental results are real or caused by natural variation. They go over the basic parameters such as average, standard deviation, and variance. They define what a normal distribution is and compare it to a t distribution. They explain what probability is and how it relates to the area under a normal or t distribution. Included are detailed examples using equations to disprove the Null hypothesis and how to use a two sample t test and p values to prove if your data is real or just natural error. This workshop is designed with a focus on students who have an interest in participating in science fairs. It is the experience of the author that statistical analysis plays a significant role in the experimental report and that judges base their scores heavily on the statistical presentation. These concepts are presented in these books, written by Gerald Bauldock. The Valley Science Fair is based on his son's experiences participating in the Delaware Valley Science Fair. The Case of the Withering Corn is a delightful story about Awa's science project designed to help save her grandfather’s farm. Learn more about these books at Amazon. Kids for Chemistry is the ultimate goal for a STEM education.

Postdoctoral Researcher at Institut Pasteur (Dr. rer. nat.) | Specialised in NMR Spectroscopy & Structural Biology | Entrepreneur at transfolded – Scientific Animations
Happy to announce the preprint of my postdoctoral work! 🎉 The study unravels novel interactions and dynamics of the Ton system, and gives insights into nutrient acquisition in bacteria. We reveal the dimeric structure of ExbD and show by CEST experiments that it exists in an inactive and active state. The latter is selected upon binding to an IDR of TonB. Peptidoglycan plays a crucial role in this mechanism. https://lnkd.in/e59Bfp6z

So... what is bioscience? Watch Patrick Breeding explain below.
During this week, we get to share #MEBioscienceDay with middle schoolers across the state. While some schools have in-person volunteers coming to their classrooms, others get to hear from Maine life science professionals through videos and do a hands on activity prepared by the BIOME (Bioscience Association of Maine) team. This video from BioME Board Member Patrick Breeding of Marin Skincare answers the question: What is Bioscience? https://lnkd.in/gNMjuG39

Thanks Cellena Scientific and dr. Hajar (CEO of Cellena Scientific) for the great conference and the good organization as well, special thanks for the speakers. Everything was fascinating and all the speakers're very useful. Each one of them has a lot of experience in his/her field and gave us important advices and inspiring talks. I hope this conference is the turning point for me. #4th_Conference_of_Biotech_Science

Last week, EPS organised a 2nd-year PhD meet-up! From sharing progress to diving into the Science of Failure, we explored the fine line between mistakes and failure. We shared experiences in our PhD, as well as tips and tricks to successfully complete the final 2-3 years. In the journey of research, we're reminded: errors are stepping stones to success!
