80% of health outcomes are the Result of social determinants of health (where you live, gender, access to clean water and air, acres to nutritious foods, etc), yet…. Only 5% of our total healthcare dollars are spent addressing these issues. We need more funding in our Public Helath departments, not less. This isn’t a political statement. It’s about the priorities of our health systems to address health disparities. It isn’t about people’s ability to “boot-strapp”, we need to address the systems that affect us all! Public Health measures have increased life expectancy 25 years in the last century. Isn’t that enough “bang”‘for the buck?
