👉Shoes were just footwear, but then Nike emerged, and things have never been the same again. Today everyone knows about Nike! But do you actually know about the man who made it a brand? I guess not. So, let’s see how Phil Knight (Co-founder of Nike) has brought revolution in the footwear industry with his innovative idea.  From a middle-class upbringing in Portland, to attaining global billionaire status, Knight's journey is a testament that all it takes is that one idea. Knight was always passionate about running and he transformed it into something extraordinary. He met the legendary Coach Bill Bowerman, at the University of Oregon. After college, Knight worked as an accountant but soon realized his passion for business. In 1962, he obtained an MBA from Stanford, where he wrote a paper on sports shoes.   Later during his world trip, he discovered Tiger brand running shoes, manufactured in Kobe by the Onitsuka Co., now known as Asics. Knight called Mr. Onitsuka, who agreed to meet with him.   By the end of the meeting, Knight had secured Tiger distribution rights for the western United States. When the samples arrived, Knight sent them to his coach, hoping for a sale. Bowerman not only bought the shoes but also became Knight’s partner and offered product design ideas. On January 25, 1964, Blue Ribbon Sports was born, which later became Nike. The craze for two brands, Hoka and Ugg, is boosting Deckers Outdoor’s revenue. The company’s finance chief is sure the brands have room for more growth, reports Jennifer Williams. But can the twin crazes last? Chief Financial Officer Steve Fasching said the company is focusing on how to continue growth that is in part driven by a fad. Fasching concedes that gauging consumer preferences can be tricky. “People will say, ‘Well, is this just a trend?’” he said of the brands’ success. My old "work shoes" have been gathering dust since the pandemic hit, and I'm probably not alone. These days, it's all about office-appropriate work sneakers. David Barrett Graver penned this fun, informative piece for Bloomberg Pursuits about how sporty footwear has found a cozy home in today's hybrid work environment. “Offices in the US have been leaning away from penny loafers and more toward self-expression,” says Mel Peralta, brand vice president at Atmos, who leads the global streetwear retailer’s partnerships with brands such as adidas. “Businesses are saying, ‘We’re listening to our teams.’ You can look so much more stylish and be 10 times more comfortable.” But these aren’t the “office sneakers” of yesteryear—the woven suede slip-ons from Bottega Veneta, the shiny cap-toed kicks from LANVIN or the monochromatic offerings from Common Projects and Maison Margiela. Now athletic sneakers from Allbirds, ASICS Corporation, New Balance, Nike and other fitness brands are included in the list of business-acceptable options. Upstart footwear brands such as On Holding and Hoka are grabbing more shelf space at retailers globally, competing with giants like Nike and Adidas as their catchy styles and focus on premium running shoes make them a hit with sneakerheads. Following a pandemic boom in comfort dressing, the newer brands have been able to pull in customers mainly through their innovative product offerings in the running and performance shoe categories. In the last five years, we've watched these orthopedic shoes move beyond the Deadhead community and into mainstream (dare I say luxury) lifestyle. You don't have to choose comfort over style when comfort becomes the style. Birkenstock's latest brand campaigns have done a great job of reinforcing this message, including their "Personality Campaign," which features sophisticated lifestyle imagery alongside their footwear. Morgan Stanley Analysts Count Sneakers in New York City’s Central Park : Researchers spend day looking at running shoe preferences watching the shoe brands of more than 250 joggers. The study’s “anecdotal” findings were of particular interest for Adidas AG : Adidas’s count disappoints as newer brands grow appeal : Runners wearing the German apparel maker’s shoes in the study represented only about half of research group Euromonitor’s estimate of an 11% share for Adidas in the sports footwear market : finding implies that Adidas has made little progress growing its appeal among runners : as the sector is estimated to top $74 billion in revenue by 2031 : Sneakers made by Nike were the chosen brand for 17% of the joggers with no shoemaker accounting for more than 20% of the sample This demonstrates how competitive and fragmented the running-shoe market has become
