In our 2023 Annual Report, we take a look at trends at FISH over the past few years, particularly comparing pre-pandemic numbers to today. What we are seeing is continued growth in need, as the high cost of living paired with fewer support resources adds more and more strain for families. One area in which we have seen considerable increases is the pounds of food we distribute each year. In 2023, FISH distributed 1,560,603 pounds of food, more than any other year in our history as an organization. Our marketplace could not run without the generous support of our community. We source food from four main sources: donations from our Broomfield grocery stores and restaurant partners, Community Food Share, in-kind donations from our neighbors (which includes food drives!), and purchased food made possible by our incredible donors and by grant funding. All of these support networks allow us to stock a variety of food and personal care items for our families so they can shop for what their families need. We need your help! Our Social Services Department provides food security to over 50 clients each month! As many have noticed, the current price of food keeps on rising and this has put a strain on many of our families. We are committed to helping our clients continue to put food on the table. That's why we are asking the community for non-perishable donations. You can bring them directly to HRI or instantly online via our Amazon Wish List. https://lnkd.in/dWcNi5pP

😍 JOIN US TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE! We have a fantastic opportunity to come together and combat hunger in our community. You can contribute in three meaningful ways: DONATE NON-PERISHABLE FOOD: Your generous donations of non-perishable food can be dropped off at either United in Faith (Fellowship Hall) or St. Cyprian's Food Pantry. These vital supplies will help us provide nourishment to those in need. SUPPORT WITH MONEY: Monetary donations play a crucial role in our mission's success. With your financial support, we can buy larger quantities of food from the Greater Chicago Food Depository at more affordable prices, maximizing the impact of every dollar. VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME: We are looking for dedicated volunteers to join us on Mondays and Thursdays during food distribution days. Additionally, on most Wednesday mornings, we need help receiving and sorting food items from the Food Depository, ensuring they are organized and ready for distribution. Your involvement, whether through donations or volunteering, will make a significant difference in the lives of those struggling with food insecurity. Together, let's create a ripple of positive change and ensure that nobody in our community goes hungry. For more information on large food donations or to inquire about perishable food items, please contact St. Cyprian directly. Join us in this meaningful cause! #FightHunger #CommunitySupport #VolunteerOpportunity #MakeADifference #TogetherWeCanHelp

📦 Foodbanks are busier than ever. 🗒️ Expanding on previous research on food insecurity and everyday austerity, Dr Alison Briggs Briggs and Prof Sarah Marie Hall's spoke with local charities and community organisations in Manchester and Stoke-on-Trent, exploring the impacts of the cost-of-living crises on their work. 💬 These organisations describe a collective sense of lurching from one crisis to another. While staff and volunteers remarked on how people’s experiences of food insecurity, for instance, were becoming more chronic. 💡 Policymakers need to move towards embedding cash-first approaches to support low-income households instead of relying on the dominant charitable approach. What does Helping Hands Food Bank do besides provide food? How can our donors know we use their donations responsibly and effectively to serve the local community? How much of a difference do our volunteers really make? Who uses the food bank? How many people use the food bank and is the need increasing or decreasing? At Helping Hands Food Bank, our goal is to be as transparent as possible with our donors, volunteers, community partners, and the public. Our 2023 Impact Report is one way we report the data and stories we have collected over the previous year to illustrates the impact Helping Hands has on Skagit County as a whole and individuals. By sharing accurate information about the need in Skagit County and trends in the services offered at Helping Hands, we can continue to partner together in the mission to nourish our community with kindness and respect without judgement. Agreed! Food insecurity is a real problem that affects people all over the state. Unfortunately, the answer can't simply be "visit a food bank near you". We need to talk about why there are food deserts all over our state. We need to talk about why black and brown families suffer disproportionately from food insecurity. We need to talk about why (in many cases) college students experience food insecurity at levels twice as high as the general population. Then, after we've talked about it, we need to do something about it. Something real and substantive. What we need is justice. Food justice for all!
As we get closer to the holidays, DHEC realizes that food insecurity is a real issue for many families in our state. With the help of Clemson University, we have developed a food bank resource that shows food bank locations throughout the state where food can be received and donated. There is still time to get involved with our Acheson Christmas Hamper Drive. Until the big collection day on December 6th at Western Star Trucks (North) Ltd we will be conveying more about the need for donations this year. Today we are sharing information about the Parkland Food Bank Society as we are asking businesses to collect non-perishable food items for this year's Christmas Hamper program. Did you know that 40% of individuals served are children and that 33% are single parents? The Parkland Food Bank provides food for 2400 individuals a month! Did you also know that for the first time, there has been a significant increase in food bank clients who reported employment as their main source of income? Every donation, no matter the amount can make an impact. We have included a link to the items that are most needed. https://lnkd.in/gqMJB6Py Let's make a difference in the lives of individuals and families this holiday season!

All policy should be made through a childhood lens.
When we invest in children, we all win💚 That was the message, loud and clear, from the UK’s five largest children’s charities at last month’s political party conferences. Together as a coalition, we hosted panels, briefings and events to ensure that our political leaders prioritise the needs of babies, children and young people. We’re calling for change - so children growing up in the UK are happier, safer and they each have the chance to reach their potential. The St. Louis Area Foodbank is thankful for your support as we face additional challenges serving our community and building a stronger bi-state region. Despite historically low unemployment, food insecurity remains high due, in part, to current economic trends created by rising costs. • The amount of food we distributed is up 11%. • The cost of procuring food to ensure we are able to feed the need is up 144%. • Food donations are down 16%. • Food Drive donations are down 20%. • The number of food drives is up 47%. • Credit card fees (many of our financial donations are given via card) are up 195%. • Fuel costs for our delivery fleet are up 34%. • Leasing expenses for our delivery fleet are up 22%. Financial and food donations from corporate and individual donors can make a big difference. Learn how you can help at: stlfoodbank.org/give-help/ #FoodInsecurity #MakeADifference
