Would you believe that some states are blocking access to funds to feed hungry children? Every week in my clinic I take care of families that are struggling to put enough food on the table. A new federal program is looking to help with that. Check out our newest episode of KIDS TODAY where we talk all about the program, what states are rolling it out, and about how you (or someone you know) can get enrolled! https://lnkd.in/gpXF-vDU

Shoutout Wieden + Kennedy for using their resources/platform to speak truth into the world and bring awareness to such an important issue - censorship & an outright agenda to erase our history. It’s powerful to be on the frontlines of activist advertising. We need more reputable brands to engage in freedom fighting and civil leadership. To stand up for what is right. WK leading the way as always!! Epitome of a brand led by strong values and principles ✊🏼📈🔥#AdMagicClassOf2023 #AdMagicAlumni
Book bans in American public schools are on the rise, increasing by 33% over the 2022-23 school year compared with the previous year, according to nonprofit PEN America. And diversity, equity and inclusion education is under attack—just last month in Florida, the Board of Governors banned public funding of DEI programs across state universities. A new campaign from agency Wieden + Kennedy+Kennedy New York and COURAGEOUS CONVERSATION GLOBAL FOUNDATION highlights the dangers of such bans and censorship, particularly to marginalized communities. “America Erased” aims to spark a movement defending students’ freedom to learn about their country’s complete history. https://adweek.it/3T6japE

**** Opportunity for Poughkeepsie (City and Town) High School Seniors **** Please help spread the word. Alert: Summer 2024 High School Exchange Program Deadline: This Friday, January 18 Eligibility: Any Poughkeepsie resident who will graduate high school in 2024 Cost: Free The American Exchange Project (AEP) is a first-of-its-kind domestic exchange program that sends high school seniors on a free, week-long trip to a hometown very different from their own. Several local partners have been able to work with AEP to have Poughkeepsie become an AEP community — with City of Poughkeepsie nonprofit Community Matters 2 leading implementation locally. There are currently 4 spots left. Any Poughkeepsie resident (town or city) who will be graduating high school in 2024 is eligible to apply. The deadline to sign up is only two days away, though. All students must be signed up by Friday, January 18. Signup Link: https://bit.ly/aepsignup Questions? E-mail <cm2pkny@gmail.com> or call (845) 768-6998. Website: https://lnkd.in/dDtpUQX Thank you to Community Matters 2 for supporting this unique opportunity for local students! … Where will students go? In 2023, AEP partnered with 53 high schools in 31 states. Once you sign up, AEP will consider where you’re from, your interests, and your availability to place you and a group of other AEPers from across the country in one of its partner communities. You could go to any of AEP’s partner towns. Is it really free? AEP covers all costs associated with the program. This includes airfare, meals, housing, local transportation, and fees for events and activities. Why is it free? AEP trips are free thanks to hundreds of donors from around the world who care deeply about bringing together our divided country and offering our students an incredible experience. AEP also believes this experience ought to be a public good. Nothing should get in the way of a young person who wants to learn more about their country and their fellow citizens. https://lnkd.in/dDtpUQX

Wonderful list of important Chicago organizations to support for #givingtuesday . Check out this list and find an organization that works for an issue you care deeply about. Thanks for the shoutout Anna Edwards!
Happy Giving Tuesday! My Top Ten list for #givingtuesday2023 is below. It’s all about the #givingvibe and the #joyofgiving! 1. Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago & Northwest Indiana– because when you’re a Girl Scout, you call the shots, make friends, have space to be yourself, and find adventure. 2. Friends of Burley Annual Fund - because Burley School is the center of kids, learning, and community in our neighborhood. 3. Chicago Commons - because this year they challenged us to go beyond meeting families in our community where they are and meet them where they dream. Beautiful Julio Paz! 4. High Jump - because they are helping curious and motivated 7th and 8th graders in Chicago from families with limited economic means prepare for high school and an increasingly challenging world. Thanks Nate Pietrini, Ed.D.! 5. UP RVA – because Greg McCandless rocks and they’re helping students in Richmond, VA succeed in school and in life. 6. National Immigrant Justice Center - because they support newly arriving immigrants and asylum seekers with legal support. Thank you John M. Skakun III and Iris Millán for your leadership on their board! 7. Scripps College - because under Amy Marcus-Newhall's leadership, Scripps is in good hands. 8. Once Upon a Time Capsule – because through the process of documenting and sharing stories, time capsules can help kids value their own voices and the voices of others. I can’t wait to watch them grow under Stacey Warady Gillett! 9. CARE – because they’ve come a long way since they literally sent care packages and abroad and are now one of the largest international organizations defeating poverty and advocating for social justice. Thank you Nashmeen Moslehuddin for your leadership in our region! 10. National MS Society - because I have MS and a cure for multiple sclerosis is within reach. And the MS community in Chicago is awesome! Thank you Nancy McInroy, Barb Poulsen, Megan Farley, MPT!
