It was a thrilling and impacting experience at the 2022/2023 Student's Work Experience Programme at Covenant University specially designed to equip the engineering students with much skill to see what it takes to be an engineer. Undergoing this internal IT exposed me to some processes that should be undergone while working with other co-workers in the construction industry and also giving me more knowledge on health and safety at the site. My first day in college was good. I got to know my programme tutors and had conversations with them. One of the students was like everyone else is here for #construction, I'm here for #quantitysurveying. So I tried explaining that as far as I understood you have choices as the course covers a broad area of construction. One of the staff members also confirmed this. I'll be learning: 👷🏽♀️Professional Skills (#civilengineering) 👷🏽♀️Construction Mathematics (covering construction and #engineering methods) 👷🏽♀️Building Construction 👷🏽♀️Construction Science & Materials 👷🏽♀️Health, Safety & Law 👷🏽♀️Construction Management 👷🏽♀️Construction Building Services 👷🏽♀️Construction Surveying I was also pleased to find out that I can get #autocad and #revit for free as a student so will go ahead and get the software. We have new state-of-the-art classes that we will be in, in the next couple of weeks. Moreover, the college is big on #greenbuilding and #sustainableconstruction. According to Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce (2023), “MidKent College has used its allocation to open a Green Skills Factory as well as a Home Energy Centre at its Maidstone campus providing hands-on experience of renewable technologies and low energy solutions plus a simulator that will re-create different scenarios for training purposes, including wind turbines and energy storage. All equipment has been installed to industry standards ready for a range of courses – including level three courses for plumbing and heating engineers wishing to become MCS registered. The journey of guiding my first group of students of Final Year of B. Tech. in Civil Engineering has been so challenging yet rewarding.
