US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Post

Comin' out of my exoskeleton, and I've been doin' just fine. Ignore the screams. 🫣 Though they may be loud (and maybe creepy looking depending on who you ask), cicadas are not dangerous and can provide some environmental benefits including: 🗣️Serving as a valuable food source for birds and other predators 🗣️Aerating lawns and improving water filtration into the ground 🗣️Adding nutrients to the soil as they decompose Remember, no need to spray! Pesticides are generally ineffective in keeping cicadas away. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eJ96EDU5 📸: EPAer Jairus

Some species, like the 17-year cicadas, spend most of their lives underground, only emerging in massive numbers once every 17 years.
