This one is all about the intersection of my two favorite titles: mom and content designer. In this particular case, that means the user experience of planning my daughter's first trip to Disney World.
Since I was the user, here are a few things that stuck out in terms of the user journey.
1. From the moment she found out we were going to Disney, I felt immense pressure to make it live up to her expectations (based largely on what she'd seen in commercials and heard from friends).
2. The process of booking our lodging was very similar to what I have experienced at other hotels, so I felt pretty comfortable that I had done it right (they'd followed Jakob's Law, and I was grateful)👍 .
3. The process of booking tickets and making reservations at the parks was stressful. Many of the pages were text-heavy, but with so much money being spent and the burden of potentially screwing up our vacation, I felt that I needed to read it all.
4. In some cases, the copy and imagery used in the confirmation screens and subsequent emails helped to reset my expectations and build my excitement for the adventure we were about to embark on.
5. I had the average pre-trip jitters on the day we took off. Would there be traffic getting to the airport? Would her first ride on a plane go smoothly? Would the limo actually be there to pick us up on time? Would our rental stroller be easy to get? So much to think of!
Of course, as we conquered each hurdle, I felt increasing excitement about what was to come. However, it was not until the next morning at 8:00 am that my mind was fully settled.
As we scanned our Magic Bands+ and the light turned green, I breathed a sigh of relief, and finally, as we strolled down Main Street U.S.A. towards Cinderella's Castle, I saw the ear-to-ear grin on my kiddo's face, and I settled into the experience.
I'll be writing a more complete article focused solely on the Disney World website and app soon, so if you like this post, keep an eye out.
Looking forward to hearing what other people think!
