Defending the rights of immigrants, people seeking asylum, incarcerated people, and everyone facing deportation IS patriotic. On this #IndependenceDay, we reflect on what America stands for and recommit to the fight for progress. No one should have to face physical exile from home and separation from family and community. As we celebrate America’s history today, we cannot forget that the concept of freedom, in this country, is limited. To realize the dream of a brighter future for the #UnitedStates, we must continue the work to advance fairness and dignity for all. https://lnkd.in/eaAAQRWe

Everyone facing deportation and its devastating consequences needs access to high-quality, independent legal representation. Since the Fairness to Freedom campaign launched last May, the number of people in immigration court facing deportation has increased from 2.1 million to 3 million. It is critical that Congress pass the Fairness to Freedom Act. The legislation will save lives, support immigrant communities and keep families together. Everyone regardless of their immigration status deserves their fair day in court. We will not stop fighting until everyone facing deportation has a chance at fairness. Learn more about the #FairnessToFreedomAct and why #UniversalRepresentation is needed, effective, supported, and achievable: https://lnkd.in/eaAAQRWe #FairnessToFreedom #UniversalRepresentation #ImmigrantsRights #ImmigrantsRightsAreHumanRights

2wHow is defending the rights of “illegal” immigrants, people seeking asylum “who are NOT citizens”, incarcerated people “who have committed crimes”, and everyone facing deportation “because they came to the country illegally or committed crimes” patriotic? No “Legal citizen” should have to face physical exile from home and separation from family and community.
