WHY I LEARNED COBOL? IT'S THE HOSTTEST COMMODITY IN THE 70s. IT'S COBOL THAT LET ME HIRED AT STATE FUND 40 YEARS AGO. I APPLIED FOR THE COBOL POSITION AS STAFF PROGRAMMER/ANALYST AND I GOT THE OFFER AND WORKED ON COBOL-II CONVERSION PROJECT AND EPAYROLL AS PROJECT MANAGER THE SAME TIME. I WORKED WITH PL/I AT UCSF AND COBOL TOO. I WORKED WITH RPG-II AT GLOBAL ASSOCIATES IN OAKLAND AFTER I TOOK THE CLASS. I ALSO WORKED WITH ASSEMBLER MACRO FOR CICS, IMS AND DB2. I WORKED WITH ADPAC PROGRAMMING SIMILAR TO ASSEMBLER LANGUAGE. YOU WILL NEVER RAN OUT OF JOBS IF YOU KNEW COBOL I TOLD MYSELF...:-) I ASKED MYSELF A QUESTION WHEN I START TO WORK WITH COBOL. WHAT IS THE LANGUAGE THAT THE COMPUTER SPEAKS UNTIL I RETIRED? LEARNING COBOL IS LIKE LEARNING ENGLISH. YOU WILL NOT GET ENGLISH OBSOLETE EVEN IN THE NEXT CIVILIZATIONS. YOU WILL NEVER FIND AN ARTIFACT CALLED COBOL IN OUR CIVILIZATIONS. COBOL IS EASY TO ME BECAUSE MY BACKGROUND IS ACCOUNTING AND BUSINESS WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL ...:-)

Old? New! COBOL, an amazing programming language, stands strong amid IT developments. While COBOL remains stable, its developers are aging and nearing retirement. To prepare for upcoming changes, analyze the number of retirees in the next 5 years, considering a 10% annual turnover. With a 10% annual team growth to align with code expansion, recruitment planning becomes crucial. It takes about three years for new developers to grasp the COBOL environment, highlighting the need for proactive planning. Senior developers must pass on knowledge, potentially impacting coding availability. Act now to assess your team and initiate recruitment for the new developer generation. There is a vast pool of eager talent waiting to contribute! If you require assistance, we specialize in preparing you to attract and onboard new COBOL developers. #COBOL #Developers #Recruitment #ITTeam #FuturePlanning #mainframe

I have to have some connections that know COBOL. Take a look below!
NEW OPPORTUNITY! This one is a bit old-school, but one of our clients has an immediate need for a COBOL Programmer. This could be a long-term contract and also an opportunity for a temp-to-perm scenario (so obviously the application is not going anywhere anytime soon 😀 ). ***If you or anyone you know has recent COBOL programming experience (MVS/TSO environment, mostly batch, but light CICS is a plus) and is currently available for an assignment, please send me a message. Thanks in advance!

Mainframe Developer&Testing Engineer | I help IT organizations, demonstrating how to optimize application performance and minimize response time by leveraging my expertise for the delivery of secure and scalable products
Overview of COBOL: COBOL (Common Business-Oriented Language) is one of the oldest high-level programming languages designed for business applications. Developed in the late 1950s, COBOL was created to meet the growing demand for a programming language that could handle large-scale data processing tasks in commercial environments. Despite its age, COBOL remains prevalent in many legacy systems, particularly in industries such as banking, insurance, and government, where stability and reliability are paramount. Modernization efforts often involve integrating COBOL systems with newer technologies rather than replacing them entirely. Overall, in my experience I have seen COBOL's longevity, readability, and robust data processing capabilities have made it a staple language in the business world, ensuring the continued relevance of COBOL programmers and applications for years to come. #mainframe #mainframedeveloper #cobol #history
