Technology transfer can sometimes be regarded as a ‘naughty’ word in the #biologics industry and is defined as a point where a Sponsor company looks to relocate their #CMC program encompassing the manufacture and analytical methods from one site (or #CDMO) to another, in whole or in part. However, #technologytransfer can also open strategic opportunities to increase process efficiency, #scaleup the manufacturing process, align with a commercial manufacturing partner, or to reduce overall costs of goods, among other benefits. Join our Scientific Advisor, Tony D'Amore, Ph.D. MBA, as he shares his insights on technology transfers from his 30+ years of experience in this article entitled "7 Game-Changing Tips for a Successful Technology Transfer" that looks to debunk the myth that all technology transfers are bad.

Transforming Biotech Manufacturing: Driving cGMP Compliance and Human Error Prevention for Optimal Operations
🐎 My most popular meme, with hundreds of likes and a lot of discussion, was of a horse, half drawn with great expertise and the other half looking like that of a 2 year old. On the pretty side, "Batch records generated from a good tech transfer" and on the not so pretty side, "Batch records generated from a rushed tech transfer." In my time as both and operator and part of tech transfer, I have seen both, and I can't stress enough the importance of getting things right the first time around...building robust documents, and using tools to improve the transfer of knowledge and skills. The tech transfer process is also the best place to investigate, discuss, and begin planning for human performance controls that will mitigate risk at critical steps. A good (or bad) tech transfer handoff can make or break a manufacturing facility. What are your thoughts on the tech transfer process? #blog #manufacturing #humanperformance

Great job Sarah! Definitely a well defined Tech Transfer Document is very crucial in this process. Look at the holistic facility fit, i.e., do you have the right equipment, qualified and the correct capacity? Availability of trained personnel, if it's a continuous process that may need to run more than one shift, do you have enough coverage? Supply chain, raw, consumables, etc. Quality control, analytical methods transfer. Do you have storage space with the right conditions for your drug substance or drug product? Once you have all that ironed out, now it's time for engineering runs and process performance qualifications. A well defined and well executed tech transfer is a no brainer for a successful manufacturing process not to mention seamless filing and auditing. The list goes on just to name a few.
