Hydrotherapy as a beacon of hope for Long COVID Patients Today, March 11, marks four years since the WHO declared the pandemic, and there are still people living with the aftermath of COVID-19. This includes the loss of loved ones and the ongoing struggle with Long COVID. Patients recovering from prolonged mechanical ventilation, especially due to COVID-19, face a challenging rehabilitation journey. Radboud UMC in Nijmegen showcases a remarkable approach to this challenge, utilizing a specialized pool equipped by EWAC Medical. This facility, featuring a movable pool floor, is pivotal in aiding the rehabilitation of long COVID patients. Radboudumc UMC's innovative use of hydrotherapy offers a beacon of hope, demonstrating how gentle, water-based exercises can significantly aid in the recovery process, helping patients regain strength and functionality. #ATS2024 was a busy and highly insightful conference. With Prof Alexandre Demoule, we presented the results from our clinical evidence studies DE-RISK WF, demonstrating that continuous monitoring of the diaphragm with RESPINOR DXT during weaning from mechanical ventilation can identify patients at increased risk of extubation failure. Furthermore, diaphragm dysfunction identified by the RESPINOR DXT is indicative of prolonged ICU and hospital stay. The technology is easy to use and has a good safety profile. By identifying patients at increased risk of reintubation, DXT can contribute to reducing the number of reintubations and, thereby, the risk of severe complications, resulting in improved patient outcomes and a lower resource burden for healthcare professionals and payers. This is a significant step towards our ambition to become the next vital sign for assessing the work of breathing. 👉 non-invasive positive pressure ventilation ✅ (non-invasive positive pressure ventilation, NIPPV) It does not require invasive or invasive endotracheal intubation or tracheotomy, but is a technology that connects the patient to a ventilator for positive pressure assisted ventilation through a nasal mask, oronasal mask, full face mask or hood. It can open the collapsed upper airway to a certain extent, increase lung ventilation volume, improve ventilation and ventilation/blood flow ratio, improve oxygenation and carbon dioxide retention, etc. ✅ In the past 30 years, with the continuous deepening of clinical research and practice on NIPPV, it has not only confirmed that NIPPV is effective, it can improve patient survival rate, avoid a series of complications caused by invasive mechanical ventilation, reduce treatment costs, and is easy to implement. It has been accepted by patients and has become a means of ventilatory support in early and emergency situations such as respiratory failure and other pathophysiological conditions. #NIPPV #respiratory #medical #feellife

As an intern a Mckay-Dee Hospital with the respiratory team, I not only seen what the Respiratory team does, but also what other caregivers and medical staff do. When the respiratory team and I were in a room a patientsh eart rate was high and blood pressure was low. The physician decided that the patient needed to be put on ECMO. ECMO stands for Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, also known as life support. This is a machine that it placed which that takes the blood out of your body and takes the Co2 out and places the oxygen back into your tissues.
