Ville Taajamaa’s Post

“The art of linearity is the non-linearity in your work - Behind the Scenes” dr. Barbara Karanian. Great thing about networks is that by exchanging experiences you understand that what you are doing and going through is exactly the same as your colleagues. Right? Yes, very good but no. It’s not enough. In networks the great thing is that you get ideas from and with others what you could and should do in order to achieve results. And reflecting those actions you learn new things. Right? Okay, now we are on to something. But no, it’s not enough. In networks with right kind of facilitation, emotional sharing and commitment you understand that your approach, your ideas and your actions are relevant to others only when you are able to design, implement and communicate them in a way that is engaging. At a logical and at an emotional level. Yes, yes and yes. But how do you do that? We do it by using stories. By we I mean us, you and me and humans universally. The power of storytelling was made alive with Barbara Karanian, Ph.D. from Stanford university together with our partner cities Cities for Sustainability Governance (CSG) our mayors Christian Specht Jukka Mäkelä Tanya Hristova (Gabrovo Bulgaria), Stelios Mamalakis (Agios Dimitrios, Greece), Lenka Opočenská, Vasilis Zacharias and our EU city network leader Teofil Gherca URBACT. We realised that only by going through our emotional commitment and motivation we can tell our story and engage our communities to create the story of our city. To create the story of European cities. It’s not going to be easy. On the contrary, It’s going to be a) Hard grinding, b) It’s about spanning the boundary, c) And it’s going to continues commitment and dedication towards Dancing with ambiguity (kudos Larry Leifer) And this is exactly what we are doing in CSG. Cities for Sustainability Governance (CSG) Also big thank you to Louis Meuleman for excellent session on different Governance styles. Professional, insightful and inspiring! Stay tuned for more.
