Virginia Tech Applied Research Corporation’s Post

Virginia Tech Applied Research Corporation (VT-ARC) was proud to host the Future Directions Workshop for Embodied Intelligence on May 19-20 at the K-Hotel in Seoul, South Korea. Sponsored by the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, the Future Directions Workshop series aims to examine emerging research and engineering areas that are most likely to transform future technology capabilities. The workshop on Embodied Intelligence was a joint effort with VT-ARC, BRO, and the South Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE). The workshop gathered over twenty-six top researchers from both the United States and South Korea to discuss challenges and opportunities in Embodied Intelligence S&T and provide recommendations for research trajectories. VT-ARC Staff Dr. Sithira Ratnayaka, PhD, Dr. Kate Klemic, Sean Lemkey, and Jae Kwak helped organize and lead the workshop, along with Dr. Kyujin Cho, Dr. Yong-Lae Park, and Dr. Robert Shepherd. The Department of Defense, represented by Dr. Jean-Luc Cambier, Director of Research Programs within the Basic Research Office, and Dr. Dai Hyun Kim, Assistant Director for Artificial Intelligence & Trusted AI and Autonomy, also discussed initial workshop outcomes with leadership from MOTIE to help inform research directions. Thank you to all the participants, observers, and organizers that helped to make this important workshop a huge success! #VT-ARC #ScienceDiplomacy #EmbodiedIntelligence #DoD #VT #FutureDirections
