💡Samuel Kim 🐘 blog on "Advancing Defense with Shift-Left AI Teating (SLAIT) and ENBUILD" was very insightful with regard to the application of #AIAssurance One key point that stood out is the SLAIT approach - Integrating AI assurance early in the development process ensures that AI systems are reliable and secure from the jump, which is crucial for defense applications. The #ENBUILD platform by VivSoft is particularly interesting because it streamlines AI integration and testing, making it easier to adapt to changing mission needs. This proactive approach seems essential for keeping our AI capabilities robust and responsive. Thanks Samuel Kim 🐘 #ai #artificialintelligence #vivsoft #proactiveai #vision

Warfighter's Edge: AI Through the Lens of DoD's Hierarchy of Needs - A 30-Part Series Part 25: Transparency and Trust: Building Credible AI Systems within the DOD In our exploration of the Department of Defense's (DoD) AI initiatives, a critical aspect is the commitment to transparency and trust in the development of AI systems. This commitment is paramount to ensuring that AI technologies are both effective and ethically aligned with democratic values and military ethics. Transparency in AI within the DoD encompasses clear communication about how AI systems are developed, deployed, and utilized, ensuring accountability at all levels. This includes detailing the data sources, algorithms, and decision-making processes involved, thereby demystifying AI operations for both military personnel and the public. Trust, on the other hand, involves establishing the reliability, safety, and predictability of AI systems. This is achieved through rigorous testing, validation, and adherence to ethical guidelines, ensuring that AI acts within predetermined boundaries and is responsive to human direction and control. The DoD's AI strategy, as outlined in various documents and speeches, emphasizes the importance of these principles. By fostering an environment where AI systems are transparent and trustworthy, the DoD not only enhances operational effectiveness but also maintains moral high ground, reinforcing the U.S. military's reputation as a principled and ethical force. In this context, the role of AI in defense transcends mere technological advancement; it becomes a testament to the U.S.'s commitment to ethical warfare and responsible innovation. As the DoD continues to integrate AI into its operations, the principles of transparency and trust remain guiding beacons, ensuring that AI serves to augment human decision-making, uphold international laws of conflict, and safeguard human dignity. DOD's AI talent, big investments, bigger challenges 🌟A recent GAO report indicates that the DoD has “invested billions of dollars to integrate artificial intelligence into its operations” and found that they “can't fully identify who is part of its AI workforce or which positions require personnel with AI skills.” https://lnkd.in/eJTSx3JF 👀 This echoes some of our findings in “The DOD's Hidden AI Workforce” (https://lnkd.in/eMEUb8aM) & “DOD’s Emerging Digital Workforce” (https://lnkd.in/eXm2cREN). The authors saw ♦️ Confusion in what defines digital or AI talent in the DOD ♦️ Inconsistent readiness for AI-era challenges, depending on the unit ♦️ Silos of innovation, great ideas in attracting AI talent exist, but knowledge transfer could be better ♦️ Everyone agrees on training needs, but the what and how of implementation is murky Resolving these issues is very important. Let's learn from what's working, align strategies, and empower the people within the Department for an AI-enabled future.

Soldiers Trained by AI? The Pentagon's Bold New Look at Warfare Imagine soldiers preparing for battle using hyper-realistic simulations generated by artificial intelligence. Sounds like something straight out of a futuristic movie, right? Well, recent reports suggest this might be closer to reality than we think. Tech giant Microsoft is reportedly working with the Pentagon to explore AI image generation for military applications. Think of creating incredibly realistic training environments or even helping identify targets on the battlefield with AI-powered "eyes." This news comes after a significant policy shift by OpenAI, a leading AI research company. Previously, they prohibited military use of their technology. Now, the doors seem to be opening. Is this a positive development, or a step down a concerning path? Ethical concerns are swirling. While AI offers advantages in military training and strategy, some worry about the potential misuse of this powerful technology. What happens if it falls into the wrong hands, or creates biased simulations that distort reality? This story raises a lot of questions: Will AI become the next big weapon in military arsenals? How can we ensure ethical boundaries are established when it comes to AI and warfare? The potential of AI in military training is undeniable, but the ethical considerations require careful discussion. Join the conversation! Share your thoughts on AI and its role in the future of military training and combat. #AI #Military #Technology #Ethics #FutureofWarfare
