Heads up to my Austin climate people: the next Climatetech Coffee is this Friday, April 19th at Lazarus East. Details here and RSVP here: https://lu.ma/hhmp13a1 This time we'll be joined by Dr. Kimberly Gilbert to hear about her work on Carbon Neutralization and Ocean Storage (CNOS) and her new startup pHathom. Kim has a deep background in chemical engineering, geochemistry, and advanced Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement (OAE) R&D through her work at the Carbon to Sea Initiative. Some of you may have seen her present at the Climate Innovation Showcase during SXSW, and this is a great chance to learn more about this emerging category and technology. Hope you can join us!

2023 was a great year for ValleyDAO: 1. Grew into a global community(+1,500 people) of Researchers/Entrepreneurs/investors, 2. Created access to funding with ~$1m raised and has invested(~$280k) in a research project from a leading research institution(Imperial College London). "The National Institute of Standards and Technology found that translating science takes infrastructure, a skilled workforce and plenty of access to funding." Moving into 2024 opportunities in providing access to research infrastructure will be of high importance, to build a powerhouse of innovation and facilitate the translation of science into the real world!! #EngineeredBiology #SynBio #DAO #infrastructure

Co-Founder & CEO @ Deep Blue BioTech | Climate Tech | Sustainable Design | CMO | Purpose & Social Impact
🔝 Great News to Share! 🔝 📣 I’m delighted to announce that my co-founders Tim Corcoran, Andrej Ondracka and I have received investment from the Carbon13 Venture Builder for Deep Blue BioTech to continue pioneering cyanobacteria's synthetic biology to decarbonise the chemical industry. Deep Blue BioTech’s mission is to move #SyntheticBiology from the lab into the marketplace. A quick reminder of how we do it: 🔬 We leverage AI and Synthetic Biology to decarbonise key chemicals. 🆕 We use a novel discovered cyanobacteria platform. 🌳 Cyanobacteria is the most efficient photosynthetic organism on earth. 👩🔬 We’re targeting chemicals for key industries like Pharmaceutical, Beauty & Wellbeing, Personal Care and Biofuels. We have successfully demonstrated that our biomanufacturing platform has the potential to mitigate CO2e emissions by 10 million tonnes per year at scale. We're now focused on our next stage of growth ahead of pitching in person at the Carbon13 Climate Innovation Showcase in Cambridge on 14th November. DM me if you'd like to meet us there! A massive thanks to our mentors Sarah Dees, Jérome Joaug and 👩🔬 Stephanie Alys, to the Carbon13 team, Chris Coleridge, Nicky Dee, Michael Langguth, Jonathan C., Emma Mee, Dominic Margetson, Sara Jones, Mai Silk and Jordan Torch and to all our advisory board, our Cohort 5 colleagues and everyone that encouraged and supported us along the way, you have made this journey simply enriching and amazing. A lot has happened in just a few months, watch the space for what's coming! #SyntheticBiology #CarbonNeutralChemicals #PathToNetZero #Cyanobacteria #Sustainability #GreenChemistry

This might sound like I'm exaggerating, but I'm genuinely so excited to be starting this. ValleyDAO has ridiculous amounts of potential for changing up how we do things. #DeSci is a crazy powerful tool. But it's also super new. Trying to figure out how to point things in the right direction, and how to get 1,500 people distributed all across the globe and connected only by the internet to all unite and align... especially when a lot of it has to be done asynchronously... it's challenging to say the least. The Arc system changes that. One theme, 3 months, with really clear plan of who our stakeholders are and why we want to reach them. One theme for everyone to get excited for. One narrative that I, as a content creator, can get absolutely obsessed with. Instead of flitting from one random topic to the next, I can get stuck in and dive down a rabbit hole. My cognitive style means I'm always doing this anyway... but it's on a completely individual scale. With the Arc, this is no longer something happening just in isolation. Now everyone is on this journey together. It's already given us so much structure, so much ability to plan, so much excitement. Our internal community is talking about this nearly every day, shaping our ops and our thinking around the Arcs. Talking about governance on how we're going to have the community vote on topics for future Arcs. Having Dealflow looking specifically into Arcs and getting a headstart on future themes. Having the Product team mapping out the ecosystem of the Arc themes. Genuinely feels like such an inflection point for me, and hopefully for ValleyDAO's community too. I'm excited because this feels like we're steering an amount of momentum equivalent to a freaking ice-breaking cruise ship. The Arc is the tracks to the freight train that is ValleyDAO's community. In short... I'm so, so ready for this. 🚂 Anyway, rant over - back to making content for the #CarbonArc!

Sustainable Automation Processes, Policies, and Technology Deployment for Organizations and Products | One Young World Ambassador
A few thoughts to add to the #climateweekNYC reflections! This year, I especially enjoyed Newlab's New Climate Futures event. Beyond meeting a great crowd of passionate climate focused professionals, the event presented a number of new climate tech companies including: -DEXMAT, a materials company focused on a carbon nanomaterial that is conductive, stronger than steel, and carbon negative. -Queens Carbon, another materials company, focused on a carbon capture and carbon neutral cement. One of my largest questions I left with was how will climate tech firms that introduce opportunities for circularity and efficient use of resources be integrated into our supply chains? Seemingly, most of these companies are selling direct to customer. How can we make these resources available to our supplier's suppliers and so forth? How will these technologies be integrated into what manufacturers are able to offer? My favorite resource I learned about this week: The CTVC newsletter (https://lnkd.in/ekTJdkU6).

🧬 #SynBio as the Future of Climate Solutions: E44 recognizes SynBio as an emerging, promising ally offering innovative solutions that harmonize technology and nature. Today we attended the 2nd Annual SynBio Meeting in Israel where our senior associate Sagi Sheinkman explored academic breakthroughs that have the potential to harness nature’s power to promote a cleaner, greener future. #SyntheticBiology, often referred to as “SynBio”, is reshaping our approach to #climatechallenges. Designing organisms to perform specific tasks gives SynBio the potential to revolutionize different industries, from #energy to #agriculture. New biological capabilities could bring about transformational change in economies, societies, and our everyday lives. 🕷️🐝 Materials: Biological means could be used to produce or decompose much of the global economy’s physical materials (e.g., spider silk production, plastic recycling, and carbon sequestration), potentially leading to improved performance and sustainable practices. 🦠 Precision: Industries could have increased control and precision in methodology across the value chain, from delivery to development and consumption. 🪰 Sensing: Biological sensors can be utilized for enhanced sensitivity, durability, and perform as MRV’s. 🧫 Energy: Applications in energy and materials using synthetic materials produced by microbe factories can decrease the carbon footprint of the energy industry. Our commitment to the environment and #netzerocarbon emissions remain unwavering, and we are looking forward to the next big synbio-based #climatetech scalable breakthrough to see what the future will bring.
