That’s a wrap on Waymo Serve Week! 👏 We’re blown away by the 7,700+ hours of community service that Waymonauts volunteered in their communities earlier this month. A huge thank you to our community partners and everyone involved—from beautifying the Palace of Fine Arts with the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department team, to supporting United Food Bank's Summer of A Million Meals, and building hygiene kits with HealthRIGHT 360. We’re so proud to support and actively participate in the communities where we work and live.
In recent years, we've seen a decline in volunteerism, and it's time we reflect on why this is happening. Many potential volunteers find it challenging to discover meaningful opportunities, and in our fast-paced world, time is a precious commodity. Additionally, stepping into a new environment alone can be daunting, and volunteer opportunities must be engaging and fulfilling. Many individuals may not be aware of the diverse range of volunteer opportunities available to them, and some may question the impact of their volunteer efforts, leading to a sense of disillusionment. Those who have previously volunteered may also experience burnout, leading to a reluctance to commit to new opportunities.
To address these challenges, organizations and communities must collaborate in reimagining the volunteer experience. By fostering a culture of inclusivity and support and addressing barriers, we can reignite the spirit of volunteerism and create positive change together. Let's embark on this journey towards a more vibrant and engaged society! #guaranteedkarma#Volunteerism#communityengagement#makeadifference
Here's something to chew on:
Chewy's community engagement. 🐾
Chances are you have encountered one of the many heartwarming Chewy customer service stories. Whether it is stories of the flowers they send to families who have lost their pets or helping elderly/sick pets enjoy their last Christmas, Chewy knows how to show appreciation for their community.
My personal favorite so far has been their Chewy Claus campaign. Essentially, pet owners were encouraged to fill out a letter to Chewy Claus. Was your pet naughty or nice? With every letter "sent," Chewy donated a pound of food on your behalf. The letter also asked the pets to make a wish and choose if they would like to receive food or toys. You could also opt to have more fun donated instead. If you were lucky, your wish was fulfilled, or you received a gift.
Chewy announced that their 2023 Chewy Claus donated 300,000 pounds of food and supplies to pets in need. That's a lot of letters, AKA engagement.
Here are a few reasons why I enjoyed this campaign:
-It is shareable and interactive. Pet owners received a copy of their pet's letter in their email. The letter was endearing and a keepsake. I shared mine on Instagram.
-It used the power of community to make a difference. At our core, we thrive when we help others.
-It used our love for our furry friends against us in the best way.
-It was relevant to the holiday season but stood out amongst the usual influx of 30% of campaigns.
-It is cute and fun.

3rd attempt to post. Though at DEA they are not so proud to highlight their shortcomings that they have no issue hiding from taxpayers.
They removed my previous posts which simply expresses DEA's willingness to hide their incompetence and disabled comments on the appropriate post.
If this firm put out the truth and numbers of how many things they had to redo on this Highway 20 Safety Upgrade between Corvallis and Albany OR taxpayers would have something to say about this firm’s laughable ranking.
How about it DEA, put out an itemized list of everything that had to be done two or three times because it wasn’t done right in the first place and how much taxpayers money was wasted in the process. In my driveway alone they had to do multiple things more than once. No wonder ODOT never comes in on budget with incompetence like this!
Taxpayers should not have to foot the bill for this!
DEA was contracted for at least the Newberg-Dundee Bypass, the worst one, up 239% from original estimate.

Best bottle cap ever!!! Imagine if our communities were filled with products that enabled us to thrive? #purpose#delicoso
So thrilled to see Newman's Own, Inc. products for sale on supermarket shelves in the #Bronx! I’ve been pushing #local#retailers to do this for years!
I’m excited to teach children and parents how to leverage their purchasing power for good - that each and every day we vote with our forks and mouths as well as our wallets and ballots. In partnership with Newman's Own Foundation, Green Bronx Machine has gone on to #impact lives from the #Bronx to #Appalachia including the first, foster-care run, commercial farm in #America!
When I show children a picture of Mr. Newman, they usually think he is my father - just another older white guy in a big hat! When they learn about his work, his legacy, his mission and his vision, it changes them from conspicuous consumers into conscientious customers who better understand the ecosystems of our world! And that’s good business for everyone!

In the past, I shared and volunteered during Christmas without fully grasping the profound impact of the giving season itself.
Today, I find myself more aware than ever of the giving season's essence, having witnessed the incredible power of collective generosity.
Over the past 9 months, my journey with United Way of Massachusetts Bay has been eye-opening, emphasizing the urgent need for economic justice, particularly during these challenging times. The world is facing unprecedented hardships with widespread hunger and displacements, making our acts of giving more imperative than ever.
Amidst these challenging times, the imperative to give is not just a moral obligation but a collective responsibility. As global citizens, we are interconnected, and the well-being of one is inseparable from the well-being of all. This perspective, shaped by my mom, guides my actions.
Our acts of generosity have the potential to restore faith in the inherent goodness of humanity.
This season let's not merely give, but let's give with purpose and compassion. Together, we can create positive change, uphold the values taught by those who came before us, and bring hope to those who need it most.
With The Gratitude Project, I witnessed the profound influence of collective action Alicia AdamsonMirayah Rivera CheekMolly Cullen, a compelling reminder that our unity can fill empty plates and uplift those in need. Check out this recap video!

Way back in 2004 I started as a Summer Ranger at Albert Park for three months... fast forward nineteen years, it’s time to finally say farewell to Parks Victoria.
Parks or PV, as it’s affectionately known, is an
organisation full of many passionate, committed people that work tirelessly to conserve and protect National Parks. It’s an employer that provides so many opportunities outside of ‘being a job’, so it’s no surprise many of my highlights are related to engaging and supporting Victorian communities:
1. Launching the Junior Ranger Program & Ranger Roo at Fun4Kids in 2007. Facilitating a connection between people and our parks is one of the most important things we do. The Junior Ranger Program provides the opportunity to create that connection at an early age and build those future park advocates.
2. As a General Firefighter, Crew Leader and Operations Officer, I had the opportunity to deploy across the state to help protect communities during some of the worst bushfires in history. I was also fortunate to raise
thousands of dollars for charity representing Parks Victoria in the emergency services Eureka Tower Challenge in 2105 and 2017.
3. Presenting Bring Your Lipstick with @Sandra Robinson at the AFAC Conference in 2015, highlighting the importance of gender equity in the male dominated emergency services sector. This work led to the the Burning Ambition video for International Women’s Day in 2016, which included leaders from across the sector committing to gender equity actions.
4. Fundraising for the Fred Hollows Foundation through participating in the 30km Coastrek challenge in 2016.
5. Representing Parks in our inaugural involvement in the Pride March in 2018. An absolute honour!
And of course, it’s the people who have become lifelong family and friends that have made a career at PV so hard to walk away from. I’ll miss them dearly, but we all know it’s like Hotel California, you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave...

We are helping others by planting seeds of empathy and compassion in our communities. 💗
Each season, GOTR participants jumpstart their journey into philanthropy by creating and implementing community impact projects that they plan and execute as a team! Through this, they witness first-hand what happens when you come together, open your heart, and work diligently to complete a team goal. ✨
The sooner GOTR girls engage in helpful acts, the sooner they embrace life skills such as teamwork, self-esteem, and respect for other people, especially those who are different from them.
