While the tools to address the climate crisis increasingly exist, the larger obstacle often lies in the realm of human nature—our values, beliefs, and worldviews that inform our decisions. One of the most intriguing sessions at the 1Sustainability 2023 Global Sustainability Conference is "Cracking the Code of Human Nature: Advancing Sustainable Solutions by Understanding Human Worldviews," led by Lauren Meadow (Magrisso), Principal at Jump Associates. Scheduled for October 16, from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm US ET, this virtual talk aims to dissect the intricate psychology that either propels or hinders the adoption of sustainable practices. Lauren Meadow brings a unique blend of futurism and social mindset expertise to the conversation. In her role at Jump Associates, she has counseled some of the world's largest companies on their most pressing future-focused growth challenges. She explores the four primary worldviews that shape human action today and seeks to understand how the concept of sustainability fits into these varying frames of reference. Her approach underscores an often-neglected reality: sustainability isn't merely a technical challenge, but a profoundly human one. She aims to provide actionable insights to attendees, allowing them to better communicate sustainability initiatives to diverse stakeholders—from consumers and employees to board members and community leaders. This promises to be more than a thought-provoking talk; it's a blueprint for any organization looking to not just implement but scale sustainable solutions. The session aspires to bridge the gap between what is technically possible and what is socially and psychologically feasible. Given that the technical solutions for climate mitigation already exist, the linchpin for actual progress now is human behavior. By helping organizations understand the psychological frameworks through which different stakeholders view the world, Meadow’s insights can offer the leverage needed to shift those behaviors. In a business landscape where companies often falter at the juncture of good intentions and effective implementation, Meadow's insights could prove invaluable. As attendees, expect to walk away not just with theoretical knowledge, but with a tangible road map for influencing human behavior towards a more sustainable future. Whether you're a business leader, a policy-maker, or someone with a vested interest in sustainability, registering for this session is an investment in a more sustainable future for all. Premier's Sustainability Awards Finalists! Earthwatch is an Industry Leader Finalist for the Thriving Environment category in this year's Premier's Sustainability Awards (Victoria). We are thrilled with the recognition this gives to the the efforts of Young Environmental Leaders whose committment to their local environment is incredibly motivating and humbling. These kids aged 8 to 14 - with their teachers and local environmental mentors - are working on more than 130 projects across regional Victoria: Bass Coast, Bellarine Peninsula, Surf Coast and Macedon Ranges. How? Because corporations, governments and philanthropists invest in Earthwatch programs so we can empower people with the knowledge and tools they need. People - children, educators, young people, office workers, business leaders - leave our programs confident that their actions locally are evidence-led and directly tackle the world's biggest challenges facing our planet - pollution, climate change, and biodiversity loss. Thank you to all of the educators and young people and local environmental mentors who have made this huge impact on the distinctive areas and landscapes that are incredibly important to the hearts and minds of Victorians everywhere.
