" The Arctic sea ice extent when the last winter month started equals 14.141 million square kilometers, according to the US National Snow & Ice Data Center (NSIDC). The extent of sea ice changes daily due to the influence of weather patterns and strong winds. After being well higher the last 20-year extension, sea ice extent decreased in the last weeks due to the influence of intense storms affecting the Arctic. Although much below the 1981-2010 average, sea ice extent is within the normal sea-ice inter-annual variability of the last 20 years, ranking as the third highest in the last 10 years, as depicted in the image below. ⬜ stripes = more Arctic sea ice, less exposed ocean 🟦 stripes = less Arctic sea ice, more exposed ocean Our new Arctic Sea Ice Stripes paint a clear picture: rising temperatures mean Arctic sea ice is disappearing. Wildfires in the western U.S & Canada aren't just a result of nature; they're intensified by our changing climate. Studies, like Zou et al. (2021), highlighted a concerning link between the surge in Autumn wildfires and the declining Arctic sea ice. 🌊 As Arctic ice recedes, it paves the way to ideal conditions for wildfires. The last 40 years have seen a notable decline in sea ice, amplifying the feedback loop in the jet stream, driving warmer air across North West America in Autumn. Unfortunately we saw the extent of these changes in Autumn last year and now we have set the record high global average this Winter. At Real Ice, we are dedicated to furthering the knowledge on thickening sea ice using pumps powered by renewable energy. We will be investigating our method using a hydrogen powered pump in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut. 🧊Stay tuned for updates! 🎥 Dive deeper into this issue with the insightful video from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Discover how melting sea ice is fanning the flames of these devastating fires. 👇 https://lnkd.in/eij9WbX4

🌡️🌳 Wondering how your neighbourhood stands up to the rising temperatures of our changing climate? meteoblue AG offers an innovative resource that allows you to view real-time heat conditions in your area, and it's as enlightening as it is concerning. From #Frankfurt to #SanFrancisco, this tool covers cities across the globe, underlining the fact that climate change is a global issue requiring local solutions. Our cities are becoming heat islands, and this tool starkly visualizes this reality. But it's not all doom and gloom - it's also a call to action. As you see the heat map of your city, you'll understand the urgent need for climate adaptation strategies in our urban landscapes. What can we do? The Meteoblue heat map tool focuses on the potential of trees, parks, and water bodies as natural cooling systems. It's time to reimagine our cities - to integrate green spaces, encourage urban forestry, and create sustainable water systems to mitigate this urban heat. Check out the temperature of your city and visualize the future we can shape with thoughtful climate adaptation strategies: https://lnkd.in/eutJ957c #ClimateChange #UrbanHeatIslands #ClimateAdaptation #Meteoblue #Heatmaps #GreenCities #Sustainability

Haze issues. Check out what we can do by turning those places with annual open fires into peat swamp forests. #Ecology #ClimateChange #ElNino #OpenBurning #Haze #CarbonSequestration
What is El Nino? El Nino is a climate phenomenon known for causing the Pacific Ocean to warm unusually resulting hotter and drier weather. This may lead to possible forest fires and eventually transboundary haze. Forest fires unleash a concoction of airborne pollutants, resulting in the heavy haze that crosses international boundaries and has an impact on the air quality, visibility and health of adjacent nations. The next time you hear about the transboundary haze, keep in mind El Nino can play a part in directing haze across Southeast Asia's skies! #ElNino #peat #transboundaryhaze #forestfire #globalenvironmentcentre
