Denied by NSA for an entry level Linguist role (which is beneath my desired salary range anyways), despite having every qualification, language scores, and current relevant experience as a cryptologic linguist. No idea why I can’t even land an interview when I’m literally a linguist with a clearance and polygraph on file. If I can’t get an interview for even the entry level, then what on earth can I get an interview for? Can’t even get a foot in the door. Just don’t get it. And wish there was actual follow up from hiring managers with actual reasoning.

Machine Learning & MLOps Engineer || Building, scaling and deploying ASR framework @AfriWhisper || Consultant @SoCha @AlphaSights
I recently wrapped up a contract last month and I'm currently in the market for a role in applied ML and MLOps. In the meantime, this is what I'll be working on, a framework for fine-tuning and deploying Whisper to advance Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR): translation and transcription capabilities for African languages. This is a short demo using a fine-tuned model to generate video subtitles of random video clips from YouTube. Part 1 - quiet setting with multiple speakers Part 2 - noisy background setting. The model produces: - Translation to default language(english). - Speaker labels. - Word-level timestamps Github Repo: https://lnkd.in/eQBR5eWq Video clip 1 source: https://lnkd.in/df46eef2 Video clip 2 source: https://lnkd.in/dc2cAfnx

In the Japanese IT industry, there is a high proportion of foreigners, so there are companies that use English. However, since Japanese is not completely unused, Japanese language skills are necessary. Many companies also support Japanese language learning. Q. Is it okay if I don't have JLPT? A. It's okay if you don't have it. However, you do need to have enough Japanese language proficiency to conduct an interview in Japanese. Have courage. Japan's top consultants will help you💪

The national Chinese Characters Typing Competition is rarely cause for excitement, but in 2013 it was. Huang Zhenyu, a student, produced 222 characters per minute, or 3.7 per second, the equivalent of someone typing more than 200 words per minute in English. (The average typist manages about 40 English words per minute.) Mr Huang’s performance was a dramatic moment in one of the Chinese-speaking world’s long-running challenges: how to use the 26 letters on the Western qwerty keyboard to type thousands of Chinese characters.

Someone told me once that I was disarming. At first, I remember hearing it and I thought it was the opposite of what it actually meant. I thought it was offensive. 😂 Turns out, I've got this knack for talking about complex things in a way that's easy to understand. Back in the early days of the internet, when tech was heavy and jargon was even heavier, I had to figure out how to explain things without drowning people in technicalities. It became my superpower, and it's still true today. 🦸 In an industry where the language is always changing and new terms keep popping up, I step in as a translator and a guide. When I meet with executives, I don't assume they're deep into tech news every day. They're running their businesses. What they need is clear, actionable insights. It's not about bombarding people with tech terms—it's about showing them the value behind those terms. Cutting through the industry noise and complexity is what I do, and that's how you see success in this field.🚀 What's your superpower? #IndustryNoise #Jargon #Superpower

Top Linkedin Voice | Founder and CEO @ Mulingua Language Services | I help businesses with their language services needs.
Should you pay a linguist for their project even if the client complained of the quality and didn't pay you? There are various opinions on this one. Here is what I do in such cases 1- We pay the linguist as long as they exerted "human effort" and the quality issues were not intentional. 2- We may stop working with the linguist or stop sending them work but we will always pay them full payment. 3- The only case where we won't pay the linguist if they used 100% machine translation without any editing or review. Believe it or not, we once had a linguist deliver the target text with "Machine Translated by Google" watermark! And when we confronted her, she said oops sorry I sent you the wrong file, removed the watermark, and sent us the same files again! **Sigh** 4- Always, always blame your hiring process so you can fix the problem and onboard better vendors next time. Perhaps you needed a more thorough translation test or a more in-depth interview to assess integrity and work ethics? Taking full accountability also gives you full control and power to make it right and improve as you go.
