If you’re trying to hire a surgeon, you most definitely need to thoroughly vet a candidate’s technical and functional skills. But, for many jobs, you need to be much more flexible when evaluating candidates. If you’re sitting across the table from a person who wants to work at your company and is smart, trainable, and trustworthy, you should seriously consider hiring that person. You can train people.
