To conserve wildlife by increasing socio-economics conditions is our commitment

From November 8 to November 10, 🇫🇷 hosted the #oneplanetpolarsummit, the first international summit dedicated to glaciers and poles. ❄ This high-level meeting brought together states, representatives from international organizations, scientists, NGOs, explorers, indigenous populations, to launch tangible action for the protection of glaciers and polar regions, and meet the challenge of #ClimateChange. To conclude the Summit, Emmanuel Macron launched the Paris Call for #Glaciers and #Poles. Adopted by some 30 countries and international organizations, it aims at promoting more scientific cooperation and at increasing the international efforts for the protection of the polar regions. 📸 One Planet Summit

There is something deep and profound happening at the planetary scale... as indigenous groups come together with people from settler cultures who want to regenerate the Earth. Yesterday I had three wonderful calls with different allies. One was about partnering with philanthropic organizations to mobilize resources around the regeneration of bioregions. Another was to work with indigenous groups around the world to cultivate their sovereignty. Then there was the third -- about how to live out the Story of the Eagle and the Condor. As I see where our work to activate bioregions and enact patterns of collaboration at landscape scales, the significance of these larger relationships begins to reveal itself. Humanity is entering a new epoch of geology and culture. We must evolve intentionally such that our descendants inherit the best of scientific knowledge and ancestral wisdom traditions. Really feeling this... Onward, fellow humans.

Headlining this event was the wonderful Dr Sam James - a globetrotting earthworm taxonomist who has described new earthworm species in all sizes and colours (including the mysterious Fried Eggs Worm from the Phillipines). Indigenous conceptualizations of fire, relation and land offer radical alternatives to dominant approaches to fire and the environment”. The recent events around CNN Portugal Summit and all the discussion around it, reminded me to go back to what is essential – the web of life, as Jane Goodall so well puts it. The disconnect with reality is so huge that we really need to examine and question our thinking about ecology, about human development, and most of all, about economy.
